Who will fill Obama's senate seat? (So Obama says never met with Blagojevich)

CHICAGO, ILL. -- Now that Barack Obama will be moving to the White House, his seat in the U.S. Senate representing Illinois will have to be filled.

That's one of Obama's first priorities today.

He's meeting with Governor Rod Blagojevich this afternoon in Chicago to discuss it.

Illinois law states that the governor chooses that replacement.

There's already been speculation about his selection...from Congressman Jesse Jackson, Jr. of Chicago's south side who co-chaired Obama's presidential campaign, to recently-retired state senate president Emil Jones, to the governor himself.

It's likely the governor will make his decision quickly so the new senator will get some seniority before newly-elected senators take office in January.

Part of the timing depends on when Obama officially vacates his senate seat.

KHQA's Alexis Hunt is speaking with Illinois Senator John Sullivan today about his thoughts on that replacement process, his time working with Obama in the state senate, and if there's a chance Sullivan might play a role in the Obama administration. Watch KHQA News at 5:00, 6:00 and 10:00 p.m. tonight to hear what he has to say.

Actually vidbizz and cycle of discernment should get the bulk of the credit for finding this. I thought it was important enough to place in Breaking for the most exposure.

Thanks to all of you. Let's not allowed this to get buried...shame the media into reporting it!

One question: did he ever ACTUALLY meet? I mean, this only says they were scheduled to meet.

Not questioning; just verifying.

To think that a senator who has been elected President of the United States, having to vacat their senate seat would not have any discussions with the person charged with naming their replacement is beyond failing the smell test.

In MediaWorld, when Obama says “you betcha” it’s proof that he’s a man of the people and not just a Harvard Law snob.

When Sarah Palin says “you betcha” it’s proof that she’s an ignorant hick who should stay in Wasilla.

Do we have a follow-up article/video to indicate that the meeting actually took place? Meetings are scheduled and canceled all the time, so we really need to know if this one did take place.

These people think they are sophisticated in the internet. Yet they should have learned during the Clinton years that such stories cannot be hidden. We are in for a very long investigation and a very short Obama term before he is impeached.

I want to see him squirm in front of a Grand Jury just like Bill Clinton. But at least let him get into office first...

Will Obambi need to "revise and extend" his remark that he had "no contact" with Blago or his office on this issue? Did he actually hold the scheduled meeting with Blago. on Nov. 5?

"He pointedly distanced himself from the case Tuesday, saying, "I had no contact with the governor or his office, and so I was not aware of what was happening" concerning any possible dealing about Blagojevich's appointment of a successor."

Obama probably helped the prosecution because Blago wouldn’t do as The One demanded.

"Today is Blagojevich's 52nd birthday."

Happy Birthday, Governor! Now that the whole world knows what a scumbag you are, will you be resigning soon?

Frog Marched out of the White House?

Have a couple of burly U.S. Marshals cuff him when he shows up for his swearing in and have the Chief Justice read him his Miranda rights.

Old news, nothing to see here, move along.

Or...... It all depends on what your definition of what 'meeting with' is.

  1. If it's like the two of them actually "met", as in 'being together', well that's one thing.

  2. But, if its like the two of them "met" and were together in a closed room, but this would now make Barry look bad because Blago's been outed by the Feds as a gutter dwelling corrupt pig (and his Mrs ain't much better), well that's another thing altogether.
See the difference.

That's what's so strange.

It would have been easy for Obama to explain why he had spoken to Blagojevich about it. It makes sense, and there is nothing illegal about it. Yet, when first asked, he denied it. As if he knew there was more to the story and he'd better just shut up until he knew what the cover story was going to be.
