GANGS of violent armed robbers are bringing terror to Manchester's suburbs. Raiders carrying frightening weapons have struck twice at homes in north Manchester this week.
Police sources said there had been around five other attacks in recent months.
In the latest incident three masked thugs, armed with a pickaxe, an axe, and a baseball bat, burst into a couple's home ...and demanded cash.
A 61-year-old man was struck in the back with the axe blade after his wife, also 61, was attacked in the kitchen as she dialled 999. It is the second time that the couple have been attacked in the last seven months.
there has been a spate of similar robberies in the area recently...
the woman was in the kitchen when the three men kicked their way in through the front door ... She managed to activate a panic alarm despite one of the robbers trying to smash it with the bat. She then tried to dial 999 but the robber grabbed the phone out of her hand and shoved her to the ground.
She managed to get her mobile and call police after running into the back garden. Her husband, who was upstairs at the time, was confronted by the axeman on the stairs. It is believed that he wrestled with the robber before he was struck.
The gang fled with a small amount of cash.

Unarmed vigilance helps ... how? Dialing 9-9-9 didn't do much for the woman in this story or for her husband.
It's a good thing that our country has the Second Amendment - for now. Perhaps the Brits should try it: "The right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." They might get it right and skip the explanatory clause to avoid confusing those who oppose freedom.

The way to eliminate the use of axes, pickaxes and baseball bats in crime is to allow the homeowners to have some sort of hand-held device that emits a small projectile made of steel and lead, aimed at the chest or head of the attacker; the projectile being capable of reaching the attacker’s body within just a moment prior to the attacker’s weapon being raised in threat.
Baseball bats in England? Supposed to be cricket bats, aren’t they?
Maybe if we install some more cameras.
And besides, with socialized medicine, you can go to get medical care for those wounds, if you survive.

You can rest assured that there is no need to panic nor attempt to thwart criminal activity unaided for the police constable will see to it that any miscreants are speedily apprehended.

A young lady friend of mine who used to live in Brighton carried a .38 double barrel Derringer for her commute back and forth to London and tells me the one time some ‘yob’ tried to assault her he literally peed himself when she put the Derringer in his face. She didn’t even fire it and the thug apparently never reported it to the constabulary. The UK needs to repeal their asinine gun bans and let law abiding people arm themselves.
Life in Great Britain seems to be getting worse every day.
The thing that really makes me mad is that this happened within earshot of my room. I normally stay late to grade papers. But I wasn't in the building on Monday. I was getting some tests done for my upcoming bariatric surgery. The sole SHEEPDOG on the floor and I took the day off when the sheep really needed me. I feel bad. I've been a teacher for 20 years, the last twelve in the inner city, split between two schools: Bad and worse, where I am now. In all that time, I've never even come close to this poor guys situation. My students know that I'll respond with a lot of training and life experience. Happened once about five years ago in the other school. When I left that school, the kids over there called their homies over here and warned 'em not to mess with me. Said they'd get burned. B-A-D. The thugs treat me with respect and I mostly ignore them. But I wish I'd been here to protect that sheep. He's now scarred for life both physically and emotionally. That kind of trauma should belong to the wolves who attacked him.

The thugs should have died at the scene, shot to death by their intended victims. Too bad the victims in this case had lost their right to the effective defense of themselves and their home. One hundred years ago it could have been a much different story.
It MAY have been Great at one time, but now it is decidedly MEDIOCRE Britain now - a virtual Nanny/Police-State where all law-abiding citizens are tightly controlled, and thugs and Islamists are given free reign.
I would not live there (and likely, will never visit there again) because I do not trust ANY government that does not trust it's law-abiding citizens with guns and the right to self defense.

If they wanted, they could have had a shotgun in their home to protect them from violent burglars....

I would expect that the husband will be charged with assault for resisting the “axeman”.
No mention if these were “asian yoots”. Manchester has a large population of mudslimes.
