Gang terror in suburbs

GANGS of violent armed robbers are bringing terror to Manchester's suburbs. Raiders carrying frightening weapons have struck twice at homes in north Manchester this week.

Police sources said there had been around five other attacks in recent months.

In the latest incident three masked thugs, armed with a pickaxe, an axe, and a baseball bat, burst into a couple's home ...and demanded cash.

A 61-year-old man was struck in the back with the axe blade after his wife, also 61, was attacked in the kitchen as she dialled 999. It is the second time that the couple have been attacked in the last seven months.

there has been a spate of similar robberies in the area recently...

the woman was in the kitchen when the three men kicked their way in through the front door ... She managed to activate a panic alarm despite one of the robbers trying to smash it with the bat. She then tried to dial 999 but the robber grabbed the phone out of her hand and shoved her to the ground.

She managed to get her mobile and call police after running into the back garden. Her husband, who was upstairs at the time, was confronted by the axeman on the stairs. It is believed that he wrestled with the robber before he was struck.

The gang fled with a small amount of cash.

"We continue to ask residents to remain vigilant."

Well, there was a difference there, Tony Martin shot them from behind as they were trying to flee empty-handed.

Obviously you've never been burglarized.

Personally, I'll never forget the day I came home with my five year old to have her say, "Daddy ! What happened to our house ?"

What had happened was that SCUM had gotten in and stolen anything not nailed down. When I thought of how many years of my life had been spent working to earn the money to buy those things, I knew the SCUM had literally stolen part of my life. Not to mention the irreplaceable items, like my grandfather's watch.

Ain't gonna happen again. I won't just shoot 'em while they're fleeing. If it was like Tony Martin's case, I could chase them down the street and blow them away in the road. It's perfectly legal here in Houston. And they damn well deserve it.

My Aunt and my cousins have been burgled, they came in through my 6-year old (at the time) cousin’s bedroom window. I would have absolutely no problem with a householder killing a burglar who is there in the house, large as life, posing a threat to them and their family. I have no problem with a householder using physical violence to stop the feckless little s**ts from running away with their stuff, but I absolutely draw the line (as do most people) at taking it upon yourself to summararily execute a burglar who is A) empty handed and B) is clearly and obviously out of your house and fleeing in the opposite direction to you. That is why Tony Martin rightly served some time in prison for what he did.
If what Tony Martin did is OK with you, you may as well support extending the death penalty to all crimes, or even give every policeman the right to terminate each and every suspect they happen across with extreme prejudice...

Based on this story and others like it, my advice to Britons and to Europeans generally would be to arm yourselves via whatever means was possible. You’ve basically been sold out by your political systems and ruling classes and nobody is ever going to take you or your interests including vital interests such as personal safety seriously again until you ARE armed. Starting from England or Western Europe, the nearest source of significant small arms at good prices is Russia, either Izhevsk or www.russarm.ru on the internet.

LOL, if I was seen with an illegal gun on my person in public I’d end up with about a dozen ARU bobbies pointing MP5’s in my face, followed by a minimum prison sentence of 5 years for possesion of an illegal firearm, which would also screw up my chosen career path in the legal profession. On balance, my best option is to do what I have been doing for the past three and a half years, and keep training in Jiu Jitsu. The best thing about that is I’m never unarmed......

Although its easy enough to get a shotgun certificate and keep one at home for burglars, but carrying a gun in public is an absolute no-no..

while its unfortunate that he was ‘defenseless’ that day, there is a reason that you had a Dr appointment...maybe this will be his ‘wake up’ moment, in hindsight...

At least from what we read in the states it sounds like owning any sort of a firearm in England is a major deal and using one in self defense in the home is a near certain ticket to prison for the homeowner. Is this picture entirely fictitious or exaggerated beyond recognition somehow or other?

Getting a shotgun certificate isn’t that hard if you don’t have a criminal record or history of mental illness. I know plenty of people who have them. Rifles (i.e. firearms with a magazine or clip of more than 3 rounds) are a bit more tricky, but if you join a gun club you can get those fairly easily as well.
If you shot an intruder in your own home, as long as he didn’t show signs of being subdued beforehand, its unlikely that you would be charged. Tony Martin was done because, and I cannot emphasise this enough, he shot Fred Barras in the back outside as he was running away. There have been many instances (which aren’t reported by the tabloid press with the same level of enthusiasm for obvious reasons) where burglars have been killed or very badly hurt by householders and no charges have been brought because they had a legitimate reason of self-defence or grounds to fear for their or their family’s safety...

I got married in a Scottish castle and the owner had a shotgun. He had given up his rifle b/c he felt that it was just too much hassle.

I never knew that Tony Martin had shot those guys while they were fleeing. That certainly does change my opinion on the subject.

About 11 years ago, when I was just getting on my feet, my house was burglarized by (I'm 99% sure) my next door neighbors. I missed them by a very narrow window as my roommate had left shortly before I got home (I left work early that day to go fishing). In another twist of fate, I was holding my loaded Glock .45 as I was walking in the pushed-open door. I had spent the night at my girlfriend's house and she lived an hour away.

As enraged as I was at the time, especially with the useless police, as the years have passed, I'm glad I didn't catch them in my house. The likelihood that I would have shot them is very high and I'm glad I don't have to live with that over a VCR and a Playstation.

Prior to the shooting he also made comments at a community assembly about how gipsies and criminals should be ‘put in concentration camps and machinegunned’ and he turned his house into a burglar trap. His shotgun certificate had been previously been revoked because he had shot at some kids he caught scrumping apples in his orchard.
He had been burgled on previous occasions, so perhaps some of his anger was understandable, but on the other hand, if you are going to shoot a burglar, its best not to give the impression to everyone whose ever had dealings with you that you are some kind of unhinged homicidal lunatic beforehand. That sort of thing doesn’t sit very well with juries, which is presumably why they originally convicted him of murder. Personally, I’m not convinced at all that he has any sense of remorse or regret about the loss of life he caused as most normal people would, even if it was justified...
