Nifty! So Bush's AG gets to reappoint him?? Any confirmation needed?

As it stands, he would not need to do anything, as he is investigating corruption in Chicago through his role as United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois.

However, if he wanted to bestow Special Counsel status on Fitz, then yes, AG Mukasey would appoint him without the need for Senate confirmation. I assume they would do this prior to 12/31/08.

Living in corrupt Vegas, I just get the feeling lower team members were never allowed near the money passing. This is all insider game stuff, which means if Blago was talking to the Obama team about money, he was talking to one of the select few. Maybe Rahm gets to hang.

Obama said he had never spoken to Blagojevich about the vacancy

So why was he not making this statement when the media were reporting a meeting with the governor regarding the seat? Why was he not making this statement when the governor's newsletter had a picture of Obama with him and saying they were discussing the seat? Why was he not making this statement when Axelrod was on TV saying he had met/talked to the governor about it? Why does he only make the statement when it's leaked to the press about an investigation? When will the media ask these questions? Yeah, I know.... when H*** freezes over.

For a great scandal we need two things: A deep throat and a media interested in getting at the truth. It looks to me if we had a deep throat, he is interested in steering the Sun God out of trouble. The answer to the second question is yeah right. Of course the media will hide behind the notion the country is in bad times and as such we don’t need a scandal because that might push us over the edge. Meanwhile when Nixon was being hounded by them, there were riots in the streets but that did not deter them from forging on upon their white horses.

Very interesting, pepsionice! I've been wondering, too; but from a slightly different perspective. My speculation is that Blago's refusal to quit office may be because he thinks he's "got the goods" on BHO (and possibly others), and so BHO wouldn't dare try to remove him. Risky business all around! And meanwhile, Blago could be showing up for work every day for a very long time to come....
