CNSNews.com Murtha Maintains He Was Right to Say Marines ‘Killed Innocent Civilians in Cold Blood’ Thursday, December 11, 2008 By Nicholas Ballasy

(CNSNews.com) - Although all of the charges have been dropped against all of the Marines – except for one – involved in the killing of Iraqi civilians in Haditha in 2005, Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.) said he stands by his May 2006 remarks that the soldiers involved “killed innocent civilians in cold blood.”

“Yes, I think it was,” the right thing to say, Murtha told CNSNews.com on Wednesday. “That’s my job. My job is due. Listen, the NCIS (National Criminal Investigation Service) came to exactly the same conclusion I did.

“They had a two-star general investigate it,” said Murtha. “General Hagee went over right after I spoke out and talked to all of the Marines in the field and said ‘you got to stop this kind of killing.’”

In November 2005, unarmed Iraqi civilians were killed in the town of Haditha in Iraq. While the investigation of several U.S. Marines allegedly involved in the killings was underway in May 2006, Murtha said during a press conference then that the Marines “killed innocent civilians in cold blood.”

He later defended his remarks on CNN and MSNBC.

You only make such a statement if you believe all Marines are cold blooded murderers.

What a bastard.

Did this POS get voted out?

Are you kidding? Is Kennedy still in office? This is the idiot that insults his own voters. Apparently the insults must be at least a little warranted as they keep voting him for more terms. He's been representing the rednecks, ...uuuhh, I mean, racist, ...err...ahhh..I mean....his constituents since 1974. When he started the democrats were all about the coal miner and the unions that ran it.

I don't get it. Maybe his district is as he says and insinuates. They're to slow to realize he is an embarrassment and an insult to their intelligence and existence as modern day American Citizens/voters.

No offense to those constituents that read or contribute here at FR.

Russell was a probably the best shot my district had at kicking Murtha to the curb.

I really, really like him. I hope he gives politics another shot. He’s the kind of fresh blood we need.

"It [Haditha, Marines] is as bad as Abu Ghraib, if not worse." (Murtha, May 2006) "They [the Marines/Military] knew the day after this happened that it was not as they portrayed it. They knew that they (marines) went into the rooms, they killed the people in the taxi. There was no firing at all. And this comes from the highest authority in the Marine Corps, so there's no question in my mind," (Murtha, May 2006)

"... they [Marine] killed innocent civilians in cold blood." (Murtha, May 17, 2006 at news conference)

"There was no firefight. There was no IED that killed these innocent people. Our troops overreacted because of the pressure on them, and they killed innocent civilians in cold blood" (Murtha, May 19, 2006)

"They actually went into the houses and killed women and children. And there was about twice as many as originally reported by Times." (Murtha, Reuters, May 19, 2006)

"Our troops over-reacted because of the pressure on them, and they killed innocent civilians in cold blood." (Murtha, ARAB WORLD NEWS, May 19, 2006)

"It's [Haditha, Marines] much worse than reported in Time magazine." (Murtha, News.comAU, May 18, 2006)

BLITZER: The marines say they're still investigating. They don't know what happened yet. The pentagon says the same thing. How do you know what happened? MURTHA: Wolf, you read the "Time" magazine articles. There are pictures, there are photos. You don't have to talk to the military about the proof. (Murtha, on CNN/Wolf Blitzer, May 19, 2006... transcript)

Mad Murtha

It dissappoints me that Murtha seems so healthy. It makes it seem like he still has too much of a political future.

Ditto Kennedy (take your pick) of Massachusetts.

Pa. doesn't care about the man running, but about the 'D' behind his name.

Murtha won his district 58% in this election after other controversial remarks. The pork he gets for the district makes him bulletproof. He will have to die or be convicted of something serious to get rid of him and the sooner the better.

Actually, Murtha was correct in describing his electorate as stupid......because they re-elected the sonuvabitch, but I don’t believe they qualify as being “rednecks”...

I’ve lived in his district since ‘96, and am proud to say I never voted for him. He keeps bringing home the bacon, and people here are so afraid of losing their jobs, which depend directly on his pork, they consider nothing else. The sad fact is he will leave when he wants to, and not before.

In a word - pork.

He is an utter scumbag, but he has a reputation in his district for being able to bring home the federal money. Plus his seniority gives him a lot of clout in a Democrat administration, which means he can do nice things for his buddies in his district.

I imagine a lot of the voters in his pigpen had to hold their noses to do it, but they figured they couldn’t risk losing that influence at a time when Democrats are on the upswing nationally.

Strangely, that “Y’all havta vote for me cause I bring home bacon” crap doesn’t work very well for Republicans who try it. As many of them found out to their and our collective sorrow two election cycles ago.

Same reason why Dennis Kucinich, Ted Kennedy, John Kerry, Robert Byrd et al keep getting elected - Uninformed, ignorant voters.

Censure this blankity blank traitor. Or else apologize to Mildred Gillars’ family (she was known as Axis Sally) in Murtha’s name.

Murtha is a senile old fool and sounds like a broken record. Murtha has a hard time remembering that in our country we are considered innocent until proven guilty.

General Hagee didn't call them cold blooded killers and the NCIS were clearly biased in their investigation. The UCMJ has the final say and those responsible for enforcing it have cleared all but one so far.
