On Wednesday’s CBS Early Show, co-host Harry Smith interviewed actor James Franco, who stars opposite Sean Penn in a new movie about gay San Francisco politician Harvey Milk: "Actor James Franco is here to talk about his role in the much-talked-about new movie, 'Milk.' He is amazing in it." At the end of the show, Smith thanked Franco for being a guest and offer this review of the movie: "James Franco in 'Milk,' amazing performance. Sean Penn, off the charts. It's a must-see for everybody."
On November 30, CBS’s Sunday Morning offered a similar glowing description of the film, describing Milk as a "rebel with a cause." In the Wednesday interview, Smith described Franco’s role in the movie as a career-maker: "...there’s this completely other performance here. I mean, there's a part of you that's go to be, ‘this means I have a career,’ and 'I'm not just -- I'm not the pretty face on the Gucci ads, I get a career now.’"

I am reminded of the old joke about Dan White’s mother when told about the shootings: “I told Danny to go out and get milk and baloney, not Milk and Muscone.”

Sean Penn gives an excellent performance, but I certainly wouldn’t say the movie is a “must-see”.
My concern is when my kids’ teaches also conclude it is a “must see”. K and 2nd grade may be too soon, but eventually I have no doubt they will show “Milk” every year in public schools along with “Roots”. If Blacks aren’t offended by that, then nothing will do it.
The murder of Harvey Milk gave us Dianne Feinstein. Harvey would have probably died of AIDS sooner or later, now we are stuck with Dianne for the foreseeable future.
Sean Penn is on the conservative blacklist. Conservatives must turn their back on him and prevent him from making a living as an actor. If all his movies bomb at the box office, we’ll be rid of him and send a message to left wing actor scum like him.

The day this was released, Bill OReilly said it would win best picture.
He says he “knows how Hollywood thinks.” (He’s been right on this before).
He said the proposition 8 hysteria in Hollywood would lead them to lionize this movie.
Not sure if I want to see this one. Penn has quite a bad rep here.
But I was at a garage sale last year and picked up “Mystic River” on DVD.
I gotta say he gave one hell of a performance in that movie, he was perfect in that role. And very powerful.
