Isn’t this unconstitutional? The Constitution clearly delegates the power to regulate commerce with Native Americans to the federal government.

The last time the state tried this the indians shut down the thruway, there was armed conflict, burning tires being rolled down on the State Police, etc. etc.

This is going to get ugly real fast.

Yeah , this worked so well the last time they tried this.
I’d rather have Spitzer and his hooker back.

If Native Americans have not collected enough to suffice for reparations by now, when will they? Time for the Injuns to join the big reservation... or give the rest of us the same benefit.

Gotta agree with Sammy. I lived next to a reservation for 18 years. They don’t pay state taxes, they don’t pay for license plates, they don’t pay for emergency services, they don’t pay for college, they don’t pay for their homes, they don’t pay for much of anything in WY. Can’t say about the rest of the country. Pure welfare of the most socialist kind.

The State, which is already over-taxed, is $12 billion in the hole next year and needs to find money FAST to pay off their mafia loan-sharks in SEIU and AFSCME

Wall start is not coming back any time soon, and Spitzer always had plans to tax the Indians, so it is to be expected.

Certainly the Indians will raise hell - as some have mentioned, last time the blocked the thruway and threw rocks and bottles at the State Troopers.

gee, i don’t know. How much could they have gotten for all their land if they sold it acre by acre? Or left if to their children’s children who sold it at todays prices? The government gave them sovereignty without time limits. Kind of like the USA has sovereignty....when does that time out and england gets us back?

“indians shut down the thruway”

If memory serves me, it was route 81 south of Syracuse where the highway passes thru the Onondaga Reservation.

I was being somewhat sarcastic. If the deal was good for Native Americans, why not extend it to those who came after?

You might be right. I seem to recall that they also set up “toll booths” somewhere and charged people to get past the roadblocks. Maybe that was at rt 81 as well?

Either way, they blocked a one of the major interstate highways in NY.

Good points all. They have sovereignty, and I for one, hope they show Paterson exactly that. That area of NY is the only area doing well right now.

They shut down Route 17 Southern tier Expressway, outside of Salamanca NY and threatened closing I90 between Buffalo and Erie.....but that was just around here.
I side with the Indians, the Feds have been screwing them forever, and NY State wants to pick up the slack.
