PHOTOS OF THE DAY

First lady Laura Bush, center, reads a holiday story book to patients and parents during her visit to Children's National Medical Center in Washington, Monday, Dec. 15, 2008. Sitting with Bush are Dania Jecty, 11, left, and Elmer Reyes, 13, right, both are patients at the hospital.

QUOTES OF THE DAY:

President Bush on Monday said, "I told the President (Karzai) that you can count on the United States -- just like you've been able to count on this administration, you'll be able to count on the next administration, as well. It's in our interest that Afghanistan's democracy flourish. It's in America's interest that we forever deny safe haven to people who still want to kill our citizens.

President Bush on Monday said (to the troops in Afghanistan) “I am confident we will succeed in Afghanistan because our cause is just, our coalition and Afghan partners are determined; and I am confident because I believe freedom is a gift of an Almighty to every man, woman, and child on the face of the Earth. Above all, I know the strength and character of you all. As I conclude this final trip, I have a message to you, and to all who serve our country: Thanks for making the noble choice to serve and protect your fellow Americans.”

How incredible it is to see a US President on both Afghani and Iraqi soil greeting their top leaders in a friendly manner.

Who would have guessed it could be possible a decade ago?

George W. Bush is an amazing man.
