The design itself is a Cold War relic, yet one of the most durable ever brought out by Boeing.

Upgrades to avionics, ECM, engines, RCS, and a better understanding of the mission have increased not only longevity, but capability at high and low level bombing.

"Nuclear combat, toe to toe, with the Rooskies..."

"Now look boys. I ain't much of a ham at makin' speeches. But I got a pretty fair idea that somethin' doggoned important's going on back there. And I got a fair idea of the kind of personal emotions that some of you fellas may be thinkin'. Heck, I reckon you wouldn't even be human beins if you didn't have some pretty strong personal feelings about nuclear ['nookular'] combat. But I want you to remember one thing - the folks back home is a countin' on ya, and by golly, we ain't about to let 'em down. Tell ya somethin' else - this thing turns out to be half as important as I figure it just might be, I'd say that you're all in line for some important promotions and personal citations when this thing's over with. That goes for every last one of ya, regardless of your race, color, or your creed. Now, let's get this thing on the hump. We got some flyin' to do."

Does the buy include a set of nuclear fuzzy dice to hand over the instrument panel and a set of atomic Yosemite Sam mud flaps for the landing gear?

Funny, with Nobama’s desire to unilaterally disarm the US of nuclear weapons, I’m expecting another type of “curtains” for the B-52.

Plus a lot of other weapon systems.

The B-47 had flash curtains for the same reason, but the ones for the pilot and co-pilot were very difficult to install because they sat under the very large bubble canopy. The navigator only had two small windows in the B-47E, and we left the flash curtains installed all the time so we could see the radar beter.

“Interesting though that nuke warfare is being discussed (disgusted) more today as an active possibility than under Bush’s rule.”

I wonder if all the 60’s retreads who voted for him thought that this is what H. Obama meant by “hope and CHANGE”??????
