The Indians do have a court case pending and the left is helping them. When I did search on some of the case work, I found that the local library committee had been helping the Indians with their case. The judges are just as partisan as the rest of the state government, so their is very little that we can do about it.
Of course it rains here, all the time, but we still have a water shortage because there are very few reservoirs. The water is all allowed to run straight into the sound. We have no storm sewer system, either - just open ditches, because they claim that the salmon might swim in the stormwater and make it to a river or lake. With this kind of logic, it is no wonder that they believe all the global warming hype.
A couple of local private water districts tried taking them to court. One won because the judge ruled that the water went no where but into the sound if the residents didn’t use it. The other won lost because the Indians built a fish hatchery upstream from the well and claimed that “excessive useage” would lower the level of water in the hatchery. Nevermind that they oppose farmed fish, while running a hatchery.
A few years ago, the state legislature tried to pass a bill that would make it illegal to place a rain barrel or cistern on your own property without a permit. They claimed that if the water was allowed to run off of your property, it wouldn’t be yours any more. It failed narrowly.
Our county decided to do an end around on the legislature, though, and passed a law making it illegal to do anything on your own property that is not specifically spelled out in county statutes. One of the county council members was complaining that you couldn’t even put up a windmill, without the county passing a regulation permitting it.
