..Paul will know, even now, how much his efforts availed.
Of course I know that he didn't truly labor in vain - a life well lived is never in vain, and the ideas and principles he championed are timeless and can never be completely extinguished.
I have no doubt, however, that seeing the unraveling of so much that he accomplished was a major blow to his will to keep fighting...
God bless you Paul Weyrich.
Amen!
I met Paul a long time ago.Eternal rest.
In a way, yes. It was good of him to support his daughter when she resigned from the Times because they were putting a conservative bias into her stories.
But, of course, he was also supportive of print journalism, too.
Was Direct Line on really late on Saturday night in the late 70s?
NET started up in 1993, IIRC. I think it was on every weeknight about 8 pm.
Prayers for family and friends.
The last time I heard of him was when he endorsed Romney before the primaries.
Then after the primaries he said he had made a big mistake.
He was a good and honorable man.
May he Rest in Peace.
Yes, it is sad to see folks like Paul Weyrich pass on, and that’s because there aren’t that many people out there like him. He would have fit in comfortably with our founding fathers. That’s a feat that would be beyond most Republicans in Washington, D. C. these days.
It is up to us to pick up the slack when good men like this go on to their rewards. It’s a tall task, but let’s allow his life to inspire us to bigger and better things.
Thanks for your efforts Paul. You will be missed by many of us who understand what you were all about.
Guys like Weyrich make us realize how ineffectual we are. He was a good guy, who made a very positive impact on many of us.
RIP to a great conservative. I always enjoyed reading his columns and prayed for him after he was diagnosed.
The backbone of the 1979-80’s Christian Conservative movement that helped put Reagan in office. A greAt man of principle with a love for GOD and nation. One of the few left in DC in this day and age. Thanks Paul for N.E.T. also. Rest in Peace.
Yeah, how many old stalwarts did we lose this year? Tony Snow, last spring William F Buckely, now Weyrich...
Someday it will be Phylis Schlafly. There does seem to be some sort of "generational shift" going on in the country. The people who made post-WW II conservatism and the contemporary movement are leaving the scene.
Nevertheless, there are a lot of talented people out there when you get into the Palin/Jindal age group. Our time will come around again soon enough.
There a lot he did for this nation few realize. He was also co-founder of the Moral Majority. Actually it was his idea. N.E.T. was great also. I loved watching it. Under Paul's leadership it was a TV network unseen before or sense. It was Weyrich who was early on warning us of the political sellout. Even back then he was doing it at the risk or expense of his health IIRC.
sometimes I wonder if we are on the brink of a new dark ages.
The kind where the hellenic enlightment in technological works like the Antikythera Mechanism which was an anicent greek computer, or the various mechanical clocks would have lead to a digital age a MILLENIA earlier, all advancement time lost due to hedonistic and political power struggles.
Generation Lazy may be able to download music, figure out level 28 of Adventure Game Amazo, but do they know how to critically THINK?
The fact that it was interactive and took phone calls from viewers was what I liked.
Yea I caled in a lot also. When he began stepping on some big toes some one or some persons made sure the station failed by removing him as Chairman and control in doing so made it an equal time format. At that point except a few shows it became hard to watch. Weyrich when he ran it held it to high standards.
Yes.
The elections of 2000 and 2004.
Hey do you remember the Aprils Fool joke he did on his viewers? He said he had discovered the Fountain of Youth and I think had his son sitting at his desk while he was talking. He had a serious side and a good sense of humor as well.
Seems I remember that! I always remember the guy from Elijay, GA who used to call in. Joe something.
Joe McCutchen.

Conservative spotlight: Joe McCutchen
God Bless Paul. He was a giant in the conservative movement, every day, and in every conversation he had. This is a major loss, especially during the Blessed season of Christmas. Prayers to his family and for him.
