Szymecki is reported to be a member of Opencarry.org and the Virginia Citizens Defense League, both of which are second-amendment advocacy groups.

Again, why are you labelled an activist if you stand up for the rights that you have?

Because it is an accurate descriptive word and a perfectly acceptable English usage. I dislike politically-correct word-parsing, so don’t bother.

I would rather be called an activist than a lobbyist by the liberal lamestream media. In general they label who they consider the “good guys” as activists, and the “bad guys” as lobbyists, even when the opposite is generally true.

Don’t worry, jay...I’m sure that Gabz didn’t realize that you wrote the article...

It really doesn’t matter whether I know who wrote the article or not, my point still stands.

It’s about time that the good guys be recognized for what they are. For far too long the leftist media has controlled the language and so it is about time those on the right start using it to their advantage. Gungrabbers are nearly always called “activists” even when they are in fact highly paid lobbyists, yet far too often 2ndA supporters who are outspoken get tagged as “lobbyists” as if it is some kind of a dirty word insinuating being paid, when in fact they are usually the true grassroots activists.

So this means that so far the City of Norfolk is up to $25,000 this year in costs for illegal conduct by their police officers against lawfully open-carrying citizens. They paid $10,000 to settle a lawsuit by “Danbus” at OpenCarry.org for an assault on him a year or so ago.

I could carry a firearm every single day and not qualify as an “activist.” You can observe that type on some gun forums, scolding people like Chet for “rocking the boat” or “provoking the government to take away our rights” or some other such rot. They’re content to beg the government pretty-please for their concealed carry “permit” and can’t even spare $45 a year to join the NRA.

An “activist” on the other hand, is someone who is not afraid to go about openly armed, even when that means they risk having guns drawn on them by screaming idiot police officers who have never read the Virginia Constitution.

An “activist” is someone who doesn’t plea bargain a BS prosecution, and who doesn’t content themselves with a stern letter to the police department but instead PUNISHES them for their illegal actions through the court system.

An “activist” is someone who rallies other like-minded people to the cause, and provokes them to get off their butts and DO SOMETHING to protect their rights.

Chet is an ACTIVIST.

Or the New Hampshire Constitution for that matter. You know, you’d *think* they could find a copy of that in a bookstore....

:-)

“Szymecki is reported to be a member of Opencarry.org and the Virginia Citizens Defense League, both of which are second-amendment advocacy groups.”

And both of which are probably tickled at the result.

We should ask Mayor Fraim if the city of Norfolk wishes to continue to make generous contributions to Second Amendment activists.

Of course Chet is an activist, and that was one of the points I was making. The other point being that it is NOT a dirty word or a label to be ashamed of.

I guess I could have worded my initial comments better, as I was not implying any criticism against Chet, rather my criticism was directed at the use of certain words by the media to construe a particular leaning.

I guess what I’m trying to say, albeit rather poorly, is that while words have meaning the manner in which they are used often lends a slant to the meaning.

I agree with this. CCW sites in CA have some of the biggest wienies in existence populating them! Also, yes, if you fight for the rights that the constitution gives us because a totalitarian(there is no other word for a government trying to disarm us) government, city, state or federal, tries to take them from us, then you are an activist.

Yes, but not in the "children's section," of course.

My friend Ryan Marvin just doled out a little butt-kicking in the public hearing concerning the renewal of the Manchester PD's CALEA accreditation last Tuesday. I'd love to have been there, but I was working late in Cambridge.
