stopping is not simply about willpower or determination (qualities that Obama personifies)

LOL! Right out of the gate the author is making jokes. What a kidder!

“Just stop! It’s a matter of balls, either you got them, or you don’t!
No excuses, all you are doing is lying, to yourself.”

....so I guess there’s no hope for the gals to quit? :>)

Agree.

No, No, don’t let him quit. 4 packs of Camel a day! Along with too much sun, large amounts of asbestos. Strict diet of summer sausage and cheese for the heart. Why would any of us want him to stop doing anything that might terminate him?

Once upon a time -- and very briefly, before I knew better -- I dated one of the mucky-mucks at ASH (Action on Smoking and Health). Except for about three weeks as a teenager I've never smoked -- visited the Walter Reed pathology museum as a kid, and the smoking/non-smoking lung sections made an impression -- but now I often wish I'd had the nerve to light up a Gitane or a Balkan Sobranie after the dessert course at a board dinner we attended.

As for the Nevada smoking ban, the tiny upside is that the casino air-handling systems have gotten much better -- you can actually navigate through the gam(bl)ing floors to the restaurants at Harrah's or the Atlantis without coughing and sputtering.

The sad thing is that nicotine qua nicotine has some medically intriguing properties. In the morning, it perks you up; at bedtime, it calms you down. (Other traditional smoking occasions will not be addressed here...) It's being researched, but not nearly as extensively as it deserves, by the Swedes. Never happen this side of the Pond.

PS to Blackbart.223 -- I'm in northern Nevada, too. Harry Reid is dead to me.

It's a great place to live.

Good point. About 25% of the American population smokes, and those rights and liberties have been taken away.

Where's Rosa Parks now?

(Waiting for the sniveling anti-smoking Nazis to chime in with their castigating nasty language).

“A gazillion smokers in American have had THEIR individual liberty and freedom legislatively taken from them.”

There is a very nice little restaurant a short walk from my beach home in Virginia (the only one nearby). Last summer I was low on food, so went there for dinner. It was crowded and many were smoking. I could barely breath, my eyes were burning, my nose was stinging and it was all I could do to keep from having coughing fits. I finally got up from the table, called my waiter and asked him to box up my meal, while I waited outside, so I could take it home to eat. Too bad MY freedom to enjoy an evening out to dinner was ruined.

Your freedom to enjoy a dinner was not curtailed by legislation ... you chose to leave.
