So, the Sarah Palin soap opera continues. The Republican vice presidential candidates future in laws are back in the news
But for the legions of blue collar women who flocked to Mr McCains standard during the election, she spoke to them; more than that, she was one of them. The soap opera is integral to her appeal.
So the drugs bust is the bad news. But there are good omens for Mrs Palin in the waters too. Just weeks after she was attacked by conservatives, she is being upheld, by those who criticised her, as a political exemplar.
The event that has contributed to this volte face is the decision of Caroline Kennedy, (daughter of JFK, educational fundraiser and not much else) to seek the senate seat being vacated by Hillary Clinton.
Mrs Palin looks like something of a political heavyweight next to a woman who has shunned the public service ethos of her family until it suited her. It is that which gives her the potential to go far.
She is clearly bright and, when she talks about what she knows, fluent and engagingthough. Given a bit of schooling (and there will be no shortage of conservatives willing to hitch themselves to her star) she could be formidable.
Being ordinary, whilst also being extraordinary, was not enough for Sarah Palin to win the election.
But she remains a subject of public fascination. In the way she is now hailed as a yardstick for Caroline Kennedy, she has become a permanent fixture in the political conversation as well.
The traumas of her private life are part of the show. Its one that well be seeing for at least four more years.

Like I’ve said here before: she declares candidacy for president in 2012, the next day I start credit-card donating under all sorts of cutsy names to her campaign, with significant frequency! Screw the rules. It didn’t stop Zero and the foreigners.
I’m already saving up my money to donate. I can’t wait to see her run for President, its what libs fear the most, and scaring the liberals is what I live to see. She is hated by the press for bringing out the truth about their “messiah” good, someone had to do it, McCain didn’t have the balls to do it, let Sarah run her own campaign, she will kick ass!!
She has my vote. But I’m kind of reticent to see the media slime her all over again.
That would probably do more harm than good.
I’m with ya! Play the game their way.
I don’t think it matters anymore to tell you the truth. The law for donations is wrong plain and simple. As long as I don’t ask for anything in return beyond that which she professes to believe and will act on, then my conscience is clear. I’m not going to adhere to accepted ‘norms’ any more.
Or course she is. She is a leader.
She is more than a “fascination”. Recent data shows her favorables with Rs are very high, and she is a frontrunner.
The UK press respectfully refers to her as “The Republican vice presidential candidates...” while that sleazy AP writer has on more than one occasion referred to her as the “failed candidate”.”
LOL, she gets more respect abroad than from the US media.
The dems would love it if we would do stuff like they would.
(ie, they would like the ammo)
Why not run our own adds?
Seems like we could avoid some legal spending limits that way.
Governor Palin looks like something of a political heavyweight next to McCain, Obama and Biden.
Give Obama and the Democratic cronies 4 years to tank this country and make money worthless, the public will be begging, pleading for Sarah to run. Screw the media, of course the idiots will always do what the press tells them to do but let Sarah be herself, let her run her own campaign and she will kick ass. Just like Reagan did, spoke directly to the people, went around the press, that is what Sarah has to do
Seems like we could avoid some legal spending limits that way."
How did the Ron Paul nuts get around all those rules? Remember the blimp, billboards, full-page ads, etc.?
‘Cuda’s the real deal, alright, and, as she had my vote in 2008, she’ll have it again in 2012. Certainly, if she so much as drops a piece of gum on the sidewalk, the media will be all over her again, as we are already seeing with the problems of the (apparently-soon-to-be) in-law. Also,Zero will see to it that no Fed money goes to Alaska. He and his handlers are still scared of her, big-time. All the more reason to support her. I’m planning my next summer’s vacation-I’m going to Alaska-gonna spend what I can in her state!
How did the Ron Paul nuts get around all those rules? Remember the blimp, billboards, full-page ads, etc.?No, I don't remember.
I wonder what the media would say if Sarah Palin’s brother was living in Kenya on $20 a year getting chased by lions and rebels with machetes?

You would need credit cards under different names too, which might be difficult. Checking accounts under different names would be difficult too. Could money orders under different names be used?
