You are right. Further more, Eastern Europe had already been divvied up at Yalta. Taking Berlin would have been waste - we would have had give most of it to the Soviets.
There were a lot of areas we took that we had to give to the Soviets. We took what we could find of Nazi secrets, special equipment, scientists, engineers, documents, treasure, etc., before turned them over to the Soviets.

Patton would never have been able to handle the counter-insurgency

My friend, if Patton had been the general in charge of the war in Iraq, there would have been NO insurgency in any form.

Assassination by low speed vehicular impact? Must be a first time for everything.

Nonsense. Patton specialized in massive tank assaults and sweeping flank movements. Please explain how these tactics are useful in counter-insurgency.

Patton no doubt could have squashed the insurgency using Roman/Mongol methods, but that doesn't require a general of genius. Just a butcher.

You are so right. Please let me know what you think about it after reading it. I may have to put it on my list.

Merry Christmas Phil, to you and yours.

"Assassination by low speed vehicular impact? Must be a first time for everything. "

True or not, the proposition had a cause behind it. There were Commies all over the U.S. government and Patton wanted to root them out.

There were Commies in high palces in the government and they began to be rooted out after the war.

Patton was a great man. He refused to be treated in the field until all GIs had been taken care of.

Yes, it's one thing for Sandy Berger (tireless lobbyist for the ChiComs) to whitewash the National Archives of any trace of Clintonian incompetence and corruption, but Lenin forbid General Patton should discover the nest of Reds ringing the sainted Delano.

The history not taught in public schools.
If I were not a Christian, I would say that McCarthy is going spastic in his grave right about now.
Thanks for the memo: I will look for the book, The Roosevelt Myth.
So I reckon you already read Seeds of Fire?

I would be surprised if Jesus did not come back within the next 100 years. However I think it will be much sooner. We are starting to get pretty ripe.
