Obama Tries Out His Salute

KAILUA, Hawaii – He’s not the commander in chief yet, but was President-elect Barack Obama briefly practicing his salute on Sunday?

On the first morning of his vacation here, Mr. Obama arrived at the Marine Corps Base Hawaii for his daily workout. As he walked out of the Semper Fit Center, his gray T-shirt soaked in sweat, he lifted his right hand and gave a quick salute to two Marines in fatigues who were standing in the distance.

The brief moment was not captured by cameras. Photographs and video were not permitted to be taken on the military base, according to campaign aides.

Mr. Obama and his wife, Michelle Obama, opened their day with a 45-minute workout inside a large gymnasium at Marine Corps Base Hawaii, which is located on the Mokapu Penninsula on the windward side of Oahu, about 30 minutes outside Honolulu. It is sunny and warm here, a world away, at least in terms of the weather, from Chicago.

The Marine base seemed sleepy when the motorcade rolled through shortly after 7 a.m. Home to the 3rd Marine Regiment, Marine Aircraft Group 24 and the 3rd Radio Battalion, the base is located only a few minutes from where the Obamas are staying, a rented home at the end of a series of cul-de-sacs (and security barricades) along Kailuana Place.

Mr. Obama, who arrived to his native Hawaii on Saturday afternoon, is taking a 13-day holiday vacation with his family and a few friends from Chicago. At least some work, though, followed him to Hawaii.

He is receiving his daily national security briefing and his transition team is scheduled on Monday or Tuesday to release an internal review of any contacts between his advisers and the Illinois governor’s office over filling his vacant Senate seat.

I think you do Chamberlain a disservice. Chamberlain was a gentleman, and would never keep company with traitors. He did, however, show remarkably poor judgment as it pertains to Hitler. Aside from that he was a good Englishman, through and through.

BHO, on the other hand, keeps company with traitors, and demonstrably is no gentleman, and it remains to be seen what his citizenship status is.

the percent of military personnel who voted for McC is just about what you quoted. there are some of the younger troops that did go for 0bama but not many overall. We may see a re awakening of silent contempt.

I saw a vehicle today with a yellow ribbon, a representation of a "silver star" flag, and a giant Obama "O" in the back window, along with a Texans for Obama sticker on the bumper. If I wore false teeth, I'd have dropped them.

I once saw Mexican Army generals getting a tour of Camp Pendleton and made sure everyone knew that they were nobodies.

But nobodies that are still due a salute as visiting officers, guests of your commanders from a mostly friendly country. Heck your supposed to salute the enemy, while you take his surrender. :)

I know that..as a senator though I am not sure he doesn’t rate the salute.

I thought about that, but he's not a Senator anymore, he's already resigned. Hopefully that was a Bad Move.

Well, he has created, in his own mind, a new office of President elect. It used to work that you had to have a military ID to even get on base. I guess they waived that and a lot of other requirements to be President for this fool. You know he is Black. That sums it up.

It’s probably a lot less expensive for the American public to enforce Secret Service security measures aboard a military base near where he is residing than secure a Gold’s Gym for his 30 minute workout.

FWIW, the salute is a simple greeting. Nothing wrong with him returning a salute, although considering he was raised on Hawaii, during and after the Vietnam War, it’s very likely that he knows what a left handed salute means.

On the other hand (no pun intended), he might have been sensitive to being on a military base, when faced with a salute from his perceived junior, may have been caught off balance and attempted to return the salute as best he was cognizant and made a mistake.

And with BHO’s intention to implement a civilian police force...you watch.

Like the Nazi's SS and SD only perverts like homosexuals will be recruited. They'll run roughshod over Americans until a revolution is sparked.

That type of salute has been around long before the Nazis. Middle East armies used the salute long before the Nazis adopted it. The use of this type of salute by Middle East groups and armies predates the Nazi Party. The same goes for the Swastika. The Swastika was used in some U.S. Army units before WWII and long before that by Native Americans.

It wasn't so long ago that this was a regular sight in the U.S. - Bellamy salute (Civilian Salute)

A “proper” military 3 fingered salute would probably get a person in trouble. ;0)

I almost saluted an officer with a cigarette in my right hand. He laughed when I did a fast hand swap.

“I bet that’s painful for him to have to try and show respect.”
*********

Naw—I would see it as an “in yer face salute”
...and that’s my censored version—I try not to post until I have at least one cupa coffee.

Semper Bullsh!t!
