Here Come the Hillary Years
Commentary Magazine ^ | December 23, 2008 | Abe Greenwald

The New York Times reports on high hopes of Hillary Clinton:

Even before taking office, Hillary Rodham Clinton is seeking to build a more powerful State Department, with a bigger budget, high-profile special envoys to trouble spots and an expanded role in dealing with global economic issues at a time of crisis.

Mrs. Clinton is recruiting Jacob J. Lew, the budget director under President Bill Clinton, as one of two deputies, according to people close to the Obama transition team. Mr. Lew’s focus, they said, will be on increasing the share of financing that goes to the diplomatic corps. He and James B. Steinberg, a deputy national security adviser in the Clinton administration, are to be Mrs. Clinton’s chief lieutenants.

Bigger stars, bigger budget - this sounds like some showbiz impresario’s blueprint to steal the spotlight from the competition. And it is. Hillary Clinton wants a dazzling State Department that will compete with the White House All-Star Cabinet Revue. The Obama presidency is starting out on a conspicuously unserious note. In fact, it’s starting out like a continuation of the campaign season.

Well heck, she’s probably got more hair on her chest than Obama. ;-) (My apologies for planting that awful image).

“Hillary Rodham Clinton is seeking to build a more powerful State Department, with a bigger budget, high-profile special envoys to trouble spots and an expanded role in dealing with global economic issues at a time of crisis.”

Hillary will be charging into what is already a crowded field on the “save the economy” front. You got the president, Congress, the Fed, Treasury, the SEC, FDIC, all those various international organizations I don’t have the will to remember the names of, etc. What does she think she can possibly add?

By the way, long ago, I recall learning Albert J. Nock’s distinction between two modes of living. There’s the economic way of life, in which you put in effort to produce things on your own. And there’s the government’s way of life, in which you simply take things from productive people. I wonder if the current crisis will be one of those milestones on our long drift towards the latter mode, like the New Deal and the War on Poverty.

Imagine the potential for the Clintons in their overseas shakedown operations? Hillary the official front-woman and Bill-the-Bagman. They are going to be more wealthy than a Kuwaiti Emir.

Hillary will be our best Sec. of State since Tom Jefferson. Why? This his her stepping stone to the White House. She’s got to do good. I expect her to stop a war and win a Nobel Peace Prise.

Yep, the “doublewide” wants to orchestrate a 4 year extravaganza that will allow her to challenge zerO for the Democrat candidacy in ‘12.

Once Obamarama takes office, the State Dept’s moniker will officially change from “Foggy Bottom” to “Fatty Bottom”.

If that happens and she runs in 2012, it would be a lock and Sara would definitely re-think 2012 for herself. Sigh.
