Dogface is so right - even my 11 year old son made a couple comments to that effect (smart little chip off the ol’ block!).
LOL!
Rachel Getting Married. Man, was that a long, boring, dreary turkey.
I agree.
If I remember correctly, Cruise told Holmes to not take up the studio’s offer to return as Rachel. Anyone know if that’s true?
Mr. Magorium was intended for kids. I couldn’t discern a real “message,” but thought the movie was appropriate for an audience of children, was pretty, and somewhat entertaining. The kids in my house thought it was great. Of course Hoffman was acting dorky. He’s a dork. What’s her name was so-so, but the guy who played the accountant did a good job, and the kid with the hat collection was just right. My rating? Kids’ Movie. ** All grownups avoid unless you are still kids at heart, not diabetic, and have no axes to grind when it comes to dumb kidflicks long on color and special effects and short on cussing, muscle, explosions, and high-speed car chases.
I enjoyed Cloverfield as well. My wife liked it too and she normally hates those types of movies.
Quantum of Solace was very good and I plan to see Valkyrie either tomorrow or Friday (just because Cruiser is a whack job doesn’t mean he can’t be in a good movie, it’s directed by Bryan Singer for goodness sake)
I guess my taste in movies doesn’t match up with this critic.
Whatever.
WHAT??? OH, man!!!
;^)
Although I'm oftentimes sarcastic around here, I am truly happy that someone got some enjoyment out of it. In fact, anything less than pain I'd settle for.
We saw it in a theater of ten people, mainly kids. When we walked out, about 2/3rd of the way through, there were only three people left. Hoffman is bad to begin with, in this role, he made my toes curl.

'The Worst Films of 2008'Easy. Any movie that was made.
There hasn't been a "really good" film made in Hollyweird since 1969(1) - except for; Ferris Bueller's Day Off and Airplane :-)
(1) Or whenever it was that the 'Studio System' ended and (cough) 'actors' thought they were also: Directors, Producers and Screen Writers all rolled into one. Or simply put, the 2nd coming of Orson Welles.
My son liked QOS. However, no one that I know that saw The Day the Earth Stood Still did so.
My wife drug me to see the play, Mama Mia.
The plot line was that a woman doesn’t know who the real father of her daughter was. She contacts the three men who could have been the lucky dude.
That was pretty much the end of my interest in this ‘cute little story.’
Pulling briars with bare hands would have been more enjoyable, than watching this can of worms unfold.
” ‘The Worst Films of 2008’
Easy. Any movie that was made.”
Umm....I’ll have to say you’re wrong on that account. Iron Man was one of the really good flicks to come out in 2008.
ALL of them!
Didn’t see any of these.
Wouldn’t know a quarter of them if it wasn’t for threads on FR.
Life is good.
My interest in Cloverfield was generated by the use of the hand held camera. It added an aspect of reality to it, that I was interested to see. It worked for me. My wife however, got vertigo from trying to watch it. She gets motion sickness rather easily.
I thought the plot worked well up until the end. I thought they fell down on the ending, but I enjoyed the movie as a sort of project using a new format.
As for my description of the new format, it should be acknowledged that the Blair Witch movie used hand held cameras years ago.
I believe she wanted the men to have one. If I remember correctly, they did.
I had checked out by then. Women may like this nonsense, but it’s like pulling teeth for me to sit through this type of drivel.
Some people think you can turn anything into a musical. It may work for some people, but I still want a plot I can get behind. This one didn’t interest me in the slightest.
If sleeping with three guys is such a charming thing to herald, why not make it ten, twenty, fifty... Just think how much better the movie could have been.
No thanks.
I’ve had no problems updating my Blockbuster queue.
