NASHVILLE, Tenn. - This year many Christmas gifts have taken a political tone. Obama gifts have overtaken Tickle-Me Elmo and Nintendo Wii as the most popular gifts of the year.
Some believe the Barack Obama presidency may have given the economy a boost even before he takes office.
Many small stores have struggled in the tough economy. Some retailers say the sale of Obama merchandise has helped their slumping sales.
The merchandise has become a hot item that comes in every shape and size.
Tucked away in a little corner on Jefferson Street, a small specialty bookstore has suddenly transformed into a destination for all things Obama.
"That's been my Christmas market - Obama products," says Yusef Harris, owner of the Alkebu-Lan Images bookstore. "It's been phenomenal. There has been a lot of enthusiasm and excitement."
The President-Elect's likeness is on everything imaginable.
"People come in from Kentucky and Columbia and Murfreesboro to buy products," says Harris.
Customers can buy historic gifts to mark Obama's election as the first African American president.
"People are buying things just to pass down to generations," says Harris.
The gifts include hats, T-shirts, buttons, posters and much more.
"It seems to be that it's the big things now - everybody wants something with Barack," says Harris.
Harris carries enough to keep even the little politician happy, with Barack Obama coloring books and toys.
"They see President Obama as a role model, as inspiration, as a person who can instill positive values and ideology," says Harris.
Obama fever has even crossed big name stores and malls - and even cyberspace, where you can get everything from Obama iPhones cases to "My Diaper Need to Change" onesies and life-sized cardboard cutouts.
For store owners, it's not a question of red or blue politics, but a Christmas color all Americans are struggling to find this year - green.
"It's been our biggest seller, and I'm thankful that people are really excited about it because otherwise sales have been really slow," says Harris.
Harris said that one of the most popular items has been a Barack Obama puzzle created by someone in Nashville.
There has not been a lot of memorabilia for past presidents, and most of what was available mocked whoever was in office at the time.

Graven images? Ammo? Ammo? Graven images? - No brainer if ever there was one.
On the Nashville local news two nights ago, they ran a piece on the actual worth of those Obama coins after they had some phone calls from concerned citizens.... lol. Apparently, it costs about $9.95 plus shipping/tax - around $14.50 total for one coin. The anchor then said the actual worth was worth considerably less.
I guess the Franklin Mint is defacing coins and putting an Obama likeness on them. Idiots.

I was kidding my VERY conservative nephew and told him I wanted him to come by for Christmas for dinner, and I had bought him the Obama commerative coin and plate. Of course I was kidding.
I used to tease him when he was about seven, eight years old and tell him I was getting him a salad shooter for Christmas.
Hey Grammy, since this is in Nashville, you might want to run by there for the after Christmas sales (ducking). I swear I’d get Mr. Grammy one and wrap it up as a joke.

Somewhere there is a neocon getting rich because they’ve figured out a way to sell a bunch of 0bama crap to the masses.
All these people are chumps. If they were smart, they’d wait for socialism so 0bama will provide them with 0bama collectibles for free.
I’d be willing to bet that most of these purchases were for “gag” gifts at office Christmas parties.

The golden coins with the former Mr. Soetoro smiling next to George Washington are beautiful, but there are no pockets on my Obama/Martin Luther King Tee Shirt.
We have placed the obamaplates on our mantel, right in front of the obamaonblackvelvet painting, which reflect the obamachristmasballs but there is a problem.
The family and I, including babyBarack, were about to kneel in front of the little obamashrine we have created for our evening prayer, when I discovered that our dog, an Indonesian Pit Bull/Kenyan Tax Hound Cross from Hawaii, had swallowed our Obamarosary, which had a little obamaprayer compass on it..
Now we are in a pickle. Do we bow toward Mecca, Honolulu, Chicago... what? I am not worried. Eventually the obamarosary will come out, looking something like the obamaadministration, I am sure. Merry Christmas.
