Two centuries on, a salute to Charles Darwin: Hero for our age
The Daily Mail ^ | Decemberf 27, 2008 | Desmond Morris

As the world faces an uncertain future, Britain's leading anthropologist toasts Darwin, born 200 years ago, for identifying adaptability as man's greatest asset

Charles Darwin

Charles Darwin: His observations undermined the traditionally held view of 'stability of species'

There is a strange object sitting on my desk as I write. It is a shiny sphere of fossilised, primeval slime. Known technically as stromatolites, this blue-green slime was the original ooze from which all life on this planet evolved.

This painfully slow process began about 3,000 million years ago and has led, ultimately, to us, the extraordinary human species.

Whenever my gaze happens to fall upon my lump of fossilised slime I experience a strange sensation, a deep respect, for I am looking at my most ancient ancestor.

Yours, too, unless you still believe in the tale of Adam and Eve and a talking serpent in the Garden of Eden.

In a few weeks, on February 12 to be exact, the scientific world will be celebrating the bicentenary of the birth of Charles Darwin, the man whose theory of the gradual evolution of living things has changed the way in which most of us see the world in which we live.

Darwin was a fool. The fossil record, specifically the Cambrian Explosion, proves him absolutely wrong. Species appear suddenly and fully-formed in the fossil record and show no evidence of the gradualism Darwin predicted.

To be a Christian and not know that is disgraceful.

you describe as those with your point of view who would shut us out of academic discussion, forbid our children to hear that they were formed by intelligent design, and even refuse us graduate degrees because we don’t dance to your piping or weep to your mourning.

No one has ever stopped you from teaching your children what you want in your churches. No one has demanded to teach evolution in your churches.

Try this on for size, insist on teaching your version of creation to Muslims, Buddhists, Hindus, American Indians, Zorastians and so on. I'm sure they would be happy to reciprocate.

The author gives himself way too much credit. More like, “has led, ultimately, to me, a half wit.”

Much of the lies about Christians not believing in evolution comes from a movie written by a communist called “Inherit the Wind” that was filled with lies and anti-Christian propaganda. What the State had a problem with was that teaching evolution should not include mankind. There reason was that bedsides not being proven that we evolved like other animals, they were afraid that IF man was considered just another animal then people would stop trying to be Godly and start acting like animals. That we would give into animal urges and stop trying to be civilized which would create all sorts of problems. The communist saying “if it feels good, do it” is a step away from controlling our morality and a step toward acting like mindless animals. In retrospect they were right.

If conservatives had taken the Darwinian concepts of survival of the fittest and adaptation we would not have lost the last elections and we certainly would not have chosen McLame as our standard bearer.

We are about to lose the war on terror to the muslies simply on the principle of persistence (theirs, not ours). Time to dust off Darwin and apply his principles to the dog eat dog world we live in.

Anyone here see the South Park episodes that have Richard Dawkins in them? In a future (time travel) world, God is not mentioned and only science is worshipped. As a result, people go around saying ‘Oh my science!’ and “Science d*mn you!”

Click the pic for an alternate view. Robert Felix nicely documents the extinction cycle at each magnetic reversal. His theory explains why soot and coal are found ABOVE the remains of the previous period and why heavy metals and radioactive elements are found in abundance at each boundary. Also noted is the appearance of fully formed new species of plants and animals that remain stable to the next extinction boundary. They arrive fully formed. No smooth links are observed as Darwin "predicted".

This sort of argument from Ol’Sparky reminds me of a numismatist fanatic who insists there are no pennies with the year 1943 on them because he has examined the ten thousand pennies he has saved over the years and there is not a single one with 1943 date on it. The arrogance to insult arises from insecurity.
