Republican contest marred by Obama song (Barack the Magic Negro)

An offensive, racially tinged song entitled Barack the Magic Negro has become an issue in the battle for the leadership of the Republican party.

The song was included in a CD distributed by Chip Saltman, who is seeking to be elected the next party chairman.

Saltman, former campaign manager for Mike Huckabee, the former Arkansas governor who fought unsuccessfully for the Republican presidential nomination this year, sent out the CD as a Christmas present to party members. It is a compilation of songs critical of liberals entitled We Hate the US.

He defended his move, saying that anyone listening to it would know it was intended to be light-hearted and satirical, and the row had been created by the liberal media.

But his main rival for the post, Mike Duncan, the present incumbent, issued a statement saying: "The 2008 election was a wake-up call for Republicans to reach out and bring more people into our party. I am shocked and appalled that anyone would think this is appropriate, as it clearly does not move us in the right direction."

The song gained prominence last year when Rush Limbaugh, the rightwing radio show host, began airing it.

that would explain the seminar caller on c-span’s washington journal.

People forget the “magic negro” is a concept pushed by the LA TIMES.

IOW a liberal paper’s liberal author came up with this.

Now republicans are in trouble because they agree with a liberal paper’s liberal author.

Nobody on the left is offended by calling Obama “the messiah”.

Great song. Isn’t that the platform this empty suit ran on. Glib promises he will say the word and the word will be law, peace, no more poor, etc., etc. What a load of crap. This jackass is like a 10 year old living in a dream world. Wait until he wakes up and see the damage the world is in. The RATS already destroyed most of the economy.

Below from the Black Commentator. http://www.blackcommentator.com/49/49_magic.html

Every one of the actors has to help a white guy find his soul or there won't be a happy ending. Bruce (Jim Carrey) won't get the girl. Neo (Keanu Reeves) won't become the next Messiah. And klutzy guy Peter (Steve Martin) won't get his groove on.

In movie circles, this figure is known as a "magic Negro," a term that dates back to the late 1950s, around the time Sidney Poitier sacrifices himself to save Tony Curtis in "The Defiant Ones." Spike Lee, who satirizes the stereotype in 2000's "Bamboozled," goes even further and denounces the stereotype as the "super-duper magical Negro."

" [Filmmakers] give the black character special powers and underlying mysticism," says Todd Boyd, author of "Am I Black Enough for You?" and co-writer of the 1999 film "The Wood." "This goes all the way back to 'Gone with the Wind.' Hattie McDaniel is the emotional center, but she is just a pawn. Pawns help white people figure out what's going wrong and fix it, like Whoopi Goldberg's psychic in 'Ghost.'"

Kwanza reminds me of the French Revolution’s attempt to replace christianity with the worship of the goddess of liberty.

The atheists did not succeed then either.

Given the popular culture commentary, it seems pretty clear judging from the comedy central left wing commedian nutjobs, kwanza is a humorous joke that writes itself.

So, decades of fleecing Americans and spewing hate at great Americans and their accomplishments isn’t offensive-—BUT, making a humorous song poking fun at something a racist Democrat said IS offensive.

Pardon me if I don’t care.

Do ANY intelligent Americans still take seriously anything the Democrats say?

paul shanklin has that song.

It is the LA TImes, the MediaMatter organization is ALREADY pusing the MEME to blame rush.

For the Obama big brother organization, Rush is their own “goldberg” for the daily two minute hate.

Mike Duncan is an idiot and one of the reasons the Republicans lost in 2008.

The Republicans SHOULD be reaching out to minorities - and any other voters who embrace Republican philosophies. We most certainly should NOT be altering our philosophies to expand our party.

Democrat Lite will never sell as long as the real thing is out there.

Again, Duncan is an idiot.

If the guy wasn’t attached to Huckabee; I might take a look at him.

Notice that the piece says nothing about the song itself, only about characterizations of the song. It's a parody of liberal Democrat attitudes about race and entitlement and pokes fun principally at Al Sharpton.

Any Republican who apologizes for this song deserves to have his ass kicked from one coast of the country to the other.

Searched for the song on youtube (owned by google). It’s been yanked. What a surprise.

Yeah, can't let people see that there was a fuss made about nothing at all.

LOL! She played that exact role in Star Trek TNG as Guinan.

Anyone who thinks the song is offensive is not qualified to be chairman.

The song was written by a liberal in praise of 0bama

Not true, the song was written by Shanklin and was intended to point out the jealousy and racist hypocrisy on the left.

I think the song is dead on, people confer magical powers on Obama because of his skin color.
There are a lot bunch of idiots out there that think he’ll “put gas in their tank” and “pay their mortgage bills”.

Racially tinged? Yes. Offensive? Only to the terminally offendable, professional victims who make their living from their artificial outrage. And Mike Duncan has provided the absolutely perfect reason that he should not be - and never should have been - RNC chairman.
