Authorities say an investigation revealed the man was trying to forcibly enter the house through the back door when he was confronted and shot at least once by a resident of the home.
Colorado's so-called "Make My Day" law passed in 1985 allows people to use deadly force in self-defense in their homes.

And his friends say it was all a terrible mistake. Looks like it doesn't pay to drink and break in. Assuming the friends statements are true, not sure how the homeowner was supposed to know that this guy was just drunk and not a deranged lunatic out to kill him.

when he was confronted and shot at least once by a resident of the home. In all this excitement I forgot how many times I fired, 5 ?, 6 ?.......
Got to ask yourself, punk, "do I feel lucky?"

Authorities say an autopsy will be completed by the El Paso County coroner's office to determine the cause and manner of death. Just a wild guess here, but it was probably the result of being shot. If anybody tries that sort of thing at my house an autopsy will be at best unnecessary and perhaps difficult due to a shortage of remains. I don't want to hurt anybody but I'll be derned if I let them come in here and hurt me.

... the El Paso County coroner's office to determine the cause and manner of death. sounds like a suicide to me....multiple self inflicted gun shot wounds to the head.
