The actor, 46, is believed to have alerted the FBI and begun increasing security around him and his family.
It is thought he received clear warnings from groups opposed to his religious organisation.
The Mail on Sunday reported that Cruise now lives in a separate location to his wife Katie Holmes and their two-year-old daughter Suri, and that the couple travel in bomb-proof cars.
The newspaper added that other protesters have been angered by Cruise's decision to star in Valkyrie, in which he plays Claus von Stauffenberg, a German army officer who attempted to assassinate Adolf Hitler in 1944.
Some critics have reported concerns that the film is sympathetic towards the Nazis and omits details of their actions during the Second World War.
It was reported earlier this year that Cruise had been warned that anthrax would be placed in the ventilation system of his Los Angeles office.
He was thought to have spent £5million on having an underground bunker built in the grounds of his Colorado estate

Using his Scientology, shouldn't Tom be able to telepathically predict the attack?
Not surprised. While I do think scientology is ridiculous, the hysteria surrounding scientology is really overblown. People wearing V for Vendetta masks at protests outside scientology centers? Give me a break!
So little Tommy got the skin heads mad at him eh?
Is the movie Valkyrie any good?
Death threats are no fun. Even the implausible ones get you wondering about who’s on the other end.
I hope the cops catch up with whoever is doing this to Tom Cruise. While I don’t have any time for him as a person or as an actor, nobody deserves that.

Yah sure. Makes for sympathetic publicity fer sure.
Funny that the anti-Scientologists don't pick on Islamists.
I wonder why?
Oh, come on, let us allow the guy to demand that his wife keep her screams silent during child birth.
at the least he should beam himself up into the spaceship till it’s safe again.........
Hmmm...
WHAT? Gah, I've been calling the wrong house all this time!
Plan B.
I suspect that this is merely a publicity stunt, and a clumsy one at that.
.
While I firmly believe Scientology is a fraud, I support Mr. and Mrs. Cruise’s freedom to choose their religion and to live their lives free from harassment. To do otherwise is to expose oneself to similar harassment for one’s own religious choices. Candid, truthful discussion of religious beliefs by willing participants can be edifying and should, in the worst case, result in a consensus to “agree to disagree.” Harassment, on the other hand, is an abomination.
First thought that entered my mind as well.
Saw the Suri baby on TMZ (not that I am a big fan of TMZ show creeps me out) with her Mom and I was curious is it typical that a 2yr old still drinks from a baby bottle?
Maybe some Moms here could enlighten me.
I can remember wanting my bottle at the age of 2-3yrs old and Gramma saying no more.
Why waste your time killing Tom Cruise?
On the list of people I’m most like to see dead, he wouldn’t even be in the top 1000.
(Note that I do not condone violence against anyone.)
Actually this is a pretty scary group. Read this sober analysis which just begins to show how strange and dangerous it is.
