Fascinating.

While Ayers was writing Fugitive Days, he felt compelled to take a course in non-fiction writing at Bennington: a curious action for someone who'd already written several relatively successful non-fiction books (under his own name). Not curious, though, if he was having a problem trying to differentiate his memoir from Obama's. In the end, he didn't succeed at that very well. It's different in some ways -- mostly because it's tighter writing that eliminates the endless ruminations and dialogue of Dreams -- but as Cashill points out, the underlying theme is the same.

One small quibble with Cashill: according to the book, Obama, Sr. abandoned him when he was two, but in reality, Sr. left Hawaii in June of '62, when Jr. was less than a year old and living with his mother in Seattle, where she was attending the Spring term at Seattle U.

There's no evidence Dunham and Obama ever lived together; no marriage certificate either. Curious that.
