Interesting, guy offs himself and the Authorities call it a "gun battle"

He apparently shot up the police car and the deputy returned fire. So before he “offed” himself, there was an exchange.

You have to read more carefully. After being stopped, he immediately started shooting at the deputy. That would be a gun battle. He thereafter shot himself. That would be suicide or, if you prefer, offing himself.

The headline is misleading to the extent that it says only that the manager was shot. People survive shootings every day. The manager was, in fact, killed.
