President-elect Barack Obama will have a Commander in Chief's Ball during his inauguration with military personnel, their spouses and those wounded fighting in the ongoing wars in Iraq and Afghanistan as guests.
In announcing this Thursday, officials said that tickets for the Jan. 20 military-only ball will be free to guests. The formal event will be at the National Building Museum in Washington.
"It is a privilege to honor our men and women in uniform during our inaugural festivities by continuing the tradition of the Commander in Chief's Ball. Our troops represent the best America has to offer, and without their dedication and sacrifice we would not be able to enjoy the freedoms that we are coming together to celebrate on January 20," Obama said in a statement released while he vacationed here in his native Hawaii.

Ditto: given his political background, I’ve been encouraged by his choices at the Pentagon so far and I think we need to hope (as Americans) that he will continue to make decisions based on his (evolving) personal judgment instead of the left-wing ideology in which he has been steeped.
Did Hussein actually say “Commander IN Chief” corrrectly? A few months ago, the Dolt Hussein was saying “Commander AND Chief”. That was around the time he said he’d visited 57 states and only had one more to visit.
We’ll have a president who’s actually dumber than Bush. How sad is that?
If you’ve seen a photo of obamma lammas’ more manly half she has what we refer to as a shelf ass.
A very large caboose attached to her backside that one could use to place a set of encyclopedia Britanica on.
I agree.
Just another left-wing head fake.
.......Ya think Obama will keep with the tradition of his predessesor of inviting FREEPERS to the White House for breakfast??......
Do we have any chicago black street thug crooked FReepers?
Time will tell if he's Cain or Able...
You all seem to have quite strong opinions, especially regarding whether or not Obama supports our troops. He voted against funding (as did McCain on a separate bill) because he didn’t agree with the rest of the bill. And guess what, its okay to question/attack a war or the President’s choices. If no one did, it would mean that 1 person was running the country, not the checks and balances of the 3 arms of the government that is supposed to be for the people and by the people.
My brother was killed by and IED in Iraq, after he was supposed to be done with all of his missions. Its BS. My father is a retired Sgt.Maj. and I supported and still do support Obama. Let’s give him a chance to do his job before assuming he is against our military. The reason I campaigned for him and support him is because I believe he has the best interests of the troops in mind. Because I believe he sees lives instead of winning/losing.
And, even though I despise Pres. Bush for lying about the reasons for a war and therefore sending my brother (who volunteered) to a war under false pretenses, I think that it was great that he started this ball and equally as nice that it will continue under our new President.
OMG! ROTFLMAO!
Now regarding Obama support for the troops. On the final bills to support funding the troops Obama voted NO. McCain voted no on bills that wanted us to surrender in Iraq and thankfully these surrender bills were defeated. Obama voted against the surge that brought us Victory in Iraq. He himself admitted that the surge worked beyond his wildest expectations which proves beyond a shadow of doubt that he has a very weak and very wrong judgments on military and national security matters.
Also 70% of the active duty troops voted for McCain and against Obama so this clearly tells you what the troops feel regarding Obama support to them.
First I did not want to respond to your post since it is totally futile to discuss facts and truth with Obama supporters however I wrote this post just to show the absolute facts and truth. I am not going to convince you and for sure you are not going to convince me.
You can have the last word and I am not going to further respond because it is a waste of my time.
Wow. First, thank you for the kind words regarding my brother. He is a hero, not only for his actions in the Corps, but also for how he lived his life other than that.
Now, I feel it quite amusing that you don’t want to discuss this with an “Obama supporter” because we are so apparently close minded. But, the same goes for McCain supporters. Look, typically the military votes Republican. You really would be hard pressed to find a time when the majority of the military population voted for a Democrat, so that doesn’t convince me. And, just an FYI, we do not and have not had victory in Iraq yet. Let’s be honest. This war will rage on for years because of the nature of the cultures that make up that region. There is too much hatred between the different sects and as long as we are over there, we will continue to come in between them and suffer and cause more casualties.
And, unfortunately, though the war was 1 of my top issues in selecting a President, it was not my only. I can definitely see where both sides are coming from. 4 years ago, I would have campaigned for McCain, but he changed. His morals changed and I changed. I cannot stand by and allow people to continue bad policies that hurt this country that my brother, father and entire family love so dearly. I still think back and wonder, what if I would have voted for Gore or Kerry? Would this country be in the state it is in now? Would my brother be dead? The last 8 years have not been good and we need to try something new. Maybe it doesn’t work, but maybe it does. Give Obama a shot.
And as for those of you that call him Hussein or OSama, get a grip. That is so racist and rude because, let’s face it, you are trying to say he is akin to Saddam Hussein and Bin Laden. What the military is fighting for is to keep our country a land of opportunity and to make sure those same opportunities are not taken from others around the world. Do you really think that your words and actions are in the same spirit? Absolutely not! The more than 4000 service members did not die so that you could act/speak in this manner. Have respect for your fellow man, no matter what his/her background is. After all, the military is made up of a cross section of this country, not just one or two races or religions.
I do not call Obama any names because there is no value of calling him names. Most people on this forum do not call him names. However you know very well that liberals have called President Bush every bad name under the sun including prominent liberal public figures in politics, in the press, in entertainment, and in academia.
Unlike the left who have lived on hating President Bush every day in the last eight years and have wished him all type of ills, we Conservatives will not behave like this toward Obama. We will not hate him and we will never wish him any ill. However we are going to fight and defeat his socialist economics, his domestic liberal social policies, and his defeatist and appeasement foreign policies.
As I said before you are not going to convince me and I am not going to convince you. Go ahead and feel free to support all of Obama agenda.
Well, we obviously have some fundamentally different opinions. Please know though, that the name calling comment was not directed at you, but at some of the others that have commented on this forum. And, unfortunately your sentiment about supporting the President is not shared by all your conservative cohorts. I am attending the Commander in Chief’s Inaugural Ball and have been asked to spit in Obama’s food, turn my back on him, call him names and a whole list of vial things.
It is no secret to my family that I hate Bush (I blame him for my brother’s death, indirectly, even if my anger is completely misplaced) , but I would never be disrespectful to him because he is the President. And, just because I voted for Obama, does not mean that I agree with everything he does and therefore will support his “liberal agenda.” I am a lifetime Republican. I do not support unions as I feel they are past their prime. When discussing my politics, there would be no doubt that you are talking with a conservative. But, I could no longer sit idly by and watch our country fall without making my voice heard. Whether or not Bush is to blame for the economic collapse is debatable, but he is to blame for us losing ground in the world community when it comes to the environment, treatment of others, etc... Our military is noble and should not have been used as a means to accomplish a task on his agenda, but to serve and protect the people of our country and our interests around the world (after all other avenues have been exhausted). They should not have been lied to and neither should the rest of the country.
I know I will not change your mind, but I cannot allow others to read what you wrote and make the assumption that you are correct. Your opinion is based on your version of reality as is mine.
And, I still disagree about winning in Iraq. We will not be able to say we have won until that country has been rebuilt and can stand on its own 2 feet. We will not be able to say that we have won until most of our men and women return home and we do not continue to suffer casualties. Yes, recently, we have seen a decrease in casualties (thank God), but our troops are not safe. That will be a sign of victory. Then, we will have to finish what we have started in Afghanistan before we even thought about Iraq.
Let’s just all hope that 4 years down the road, we are in a better place than we are now. That unemployment has dropped, the wars have ended (or are close to an end), and that our citizens can be comforted in knowing that they will be ok if they become sick or old. Its a huge undertaking, but we’ve got to work together to accomplish our goals.
