According to the Chinese calendar, 2008 was the Year of the Rat. But thats a completely inadequate monicker for the year of Eliot Spitzer, Jeremiah Wright, Chris Matthews, Rod Blagojevich, Somali pirates, the Obama boom and the McCain bust.
2008 wasnt the year of the Dark Knight. It was the year of the Joker: why so serious? What could be funnier than the possibility of Al Franken in the US Senate? Ok, ok. Banking Queen Barney Frank is, and maybe Sen. Caroline Kennedy would be.
And if those images arent bizarre enough for you, how about the facts that -- for a while at least -- the French President was speaking as if he liked us, and his nation managed to go a whole year without surrendering to anybody?
Some Iraqi reporter tossed his shoes at W and the Arab world is treating him like a big celebrity. Cmon, you guys. That punk isnt a great celebrity: take that from a nation that just elected one president. No, we didnt elect Paris Hilton. We did much worse than that.
Most importantly, 2008 was the Year of the RINO. Conservatives went from early February through November 4th with a low-grade headache and acid indigestion, and not even Dr. House could have diagnosed the cause. It wasnt until November 5, when we recovered suddenly, that we knew.

Oh wait, I was supposed to name a GOP leader. My bad.
LoL. Good point! Yep, we let a corrupt system that allows crossover voting to appoint our presidential candidate and we suffered for it. I had hoped not to have to live through another Dole/Kemp type of campaign experience but damn if it didn't happen. Bob Dole was another great veteran, wonderful man, who went down in flames to yet another young candidate with a "hope" or "change" message.
I'd still like to know how GOP is going to avoid letting a McCain happen again. States like NY that have a liberal voting streak should have a reduction in convention votes... say by 75%. Thats one way to fix it.
We weren't hoping for a "maverick" and any avid readers of Ann Coulter will recognize immediately that "maverick" is nothing but newspeak for "RINO".
George W. Bush.
No explanation is necessary, other than to point to the recent Socialist bailouts spearheaded by Paulson and Bush or to the Socialist amnesties for illegal aliens put forth by Kennedy, McCain, and Bush.

Well, Bush, to his credit, used a small provision in the "bailout" to give the money to banks rather than Fannie Mae, but I would agree he hasn't been the best President and I'm disappointed in many things he did or his "sins of ommission" by failing to use his veto pen.
As Governor of Texas, he, like Palin, worked with Democrats and Republicans and had this "who cares who gets the credit" attitude and it worked great in Texas. It can work sometimes on the State level, but it is never going to work in DC where you have diehard socialist that look to every tragedy as another opportunity to nationalize something and I think they would institute full-blown communism if they had a chance. It was very telling, that little slip by Maxine Waters when she was grilling the oil-company execs about gas prices... almost said it out loud that she and her communist friends would love to nationalize the refinery companies.
You know, why don't we stop referring to them as socialists and just come right out and call them communists? Thats what they really want to be anyway. Jimmy Carter was a socialist, but these "progressives" we have to deal with today are not your Carter style socialists.
“That would be wrong, Mr. Babbin. How about ‘a large part of the American political spectrum, left to right, is playing “Are You Smarter Than Trig Palin?”...and losing’? Really, I can’t even watch that s**t anymore. It makes my thigh throb. Even through enough Vicodin to kill Amy Winehouse. Don’t try me, Mr. Babbin. Don’t even try me. This cane hurts. By the way, I saw your vice-presidential nominee. If you, at least the men among you, had any medical problems between Labor Day weekend and Election Day other than an erection that lasted longer than four hours, you either weren’t paying attention, you were homosexual or you were dead.”
I’ve been saying people should just call them Communists.
Hardly baiting. When I posted, "Many RINOs are, in fact, Socialist fools." you replied, "To one degree or another, I would agree..."
If you want a list, you could start out with the roll call of Republicans who voted for the "bailout".
While you’re at it, if you’re expecting perfection in a candidate you’ll wait a long time, while you’re at it.
:)
.
Hmmmm...let's see, "Gang of 14" (scratches head in a puzzled manner)...who are those people? (snaps fingers) Oh, wait, I know! Isn't the McMaverick part of that group?
/sarc
They won't. It was his "turn."
That would be wrong, Mr. Babbin. How about a large part of the American political spectrum, left to right, is playing Are You Smarter Than Trig Palin?...and losing?..."
I will never be accused of being in Sarah's "rah-rah corner", but, even if you are channeling Greg House, that remark was uncalled for.
Since you asked, why not Palin for Murkowski in Alaska?
There are young, driven conservatives such as the likes of Eric Cantor, Jeff Flake, Thad Cotter, Paul Ryan, Mike Pence and Bobby Jindahl living in Nebraska, Maine or Arizona.
We just do not know of them as well yet.
“Conservatives went from early February through November 4th with a low-grade headache and acid indigestion, and not even Dr. House could have diagnosed the cause. It wasnt until November 5, when we recovered suddenly, that we knew.”
The GOP has a likely fatal case of....RINOS!
“While youre at it, get rid of Romney and Huckabee”
And Rudy.
Excellent cartoon.
“Expecting all R’s to behave the same is crazy”
They are expected to stick to the platform or go find another that more suits their views.
You’re right. I apologize to Trig.
They are expected to stick to the platform or go find another that more suits their views.
So, ok, by your standards it may be a thousand years before we may again have a majority in Congress. I can't wait that long, and I'm not sure the Republic can survive that long under mostly unfettered liberal rule.
I'm trying to tell you that it is not realistic to expect a party full of Newt Gingrichs in our lifetime. I'm also trying to get the point across that with a few more R's of any stripe, we wouldn't have liberals leading the House and Senate. Its the leadership that sets the agenda. Can you get that?
“So, ok, by your standards it may be a thousand years before we may again have a majority in Congress.”
I care if the GOP holds power why, again? We’ve seen that they only sound conservative when they hold no power, when they win, however they throw conservatives and their values under the damned bus.
“I’m not sure the Republic can survive that long under mostly unfettered liberal rule.”
Why not? We’ve done ok for the last 8 years.
“I’m trying to tell you that it is not realistic to expect a party full of Newt Gingrichs in our lifetime.”
How about a party in which the supposed adherents agree with and advance the platform or GTFO?
“I’m also trying to get the point across that with a few more R’s of any stripe, we wouldn’t have liberals leading the House and Senate......Can you get that?”
You are confusing Conservatives with Republicans. The two really have very little in common anymore. Can you get that?
