STEINEM TOUTS KENNEDY FOR NY SEAT - IN HOUSE

By BRENDAN SCOTT in Albany and MAGGIE HABERMAN in New York

January 3, 2009 -- Feminist icon Gloria Steinem yesterday said Gov. Paterson should appoint Rep. Carolyn Maloney to the Senate - and ask Caroline Kennedy to run for Maloney's House seat instead of the Senate.

Maloney, 60, who represents Manhattan's East Side and part of Queens, has been quietly pushing her case for the seat being vacated by Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton even as Kennedy, 51, has received more attention.

Steinem put forth her idea, unsolicited, as Maloney was honored in Midtown by a coalition that fights human trafficking.

"I am only a voter and a constituent with no power here, but if I were the governor here, I would appoint Carolyn Maloney to the US Senate and ask Caroline Kennedy to run for [Maloney's] seat," Steinem said.

"I think it's logical. In my own terms, it's logical in terms of the two records and a need for both of these women in Congress."

Steinem spoke as The Associated Press reported that the daughter of JFK is on the verge of being picked for the Senate.

Asked if Kennedy is qualified for the job, Steinem replied, "She has a different set of qualifications. She can do different things. But I know that Carolyn Maloney is a champion of the issues that are the most important, and I know she has experience doing that."

Maloney herself dodged a question about Kennedy's credentials, saying, "There are a number of people . . . mentioned who have worked hard for this state, who have great records of distinction, several from the New York delegation.

"There are many people being considered and this decision is being made by our governor."

All big name NY Dems are dragged into this mess. This thing could get ugly regardless of which way it gets resolved.

As the Democrat-World Turns.

Will Caroline Kennedy teach 534 Representatives haute couture?

Will Carolyn Maloney trade baloney for filet mignon?

Stay tuned for the next program in the series "As the Democrat-World Turns (the Republicans' Stomach)."

Mz. Steinem has every vested interest in a proposal along these lines: Caroline Kennedy is not qualified for office. However, Mz. Steinem is trying to salvage the “women as qualified and equal” while not upsetting the royal crown of Kennedy.

If Kennedy gets the appointment, I wonder how much it cost the Kennedy family to buy the senate seat.

As of late this sounds like the democrats mode of operation.

Maloney wants the Senate seat and Caroline Schlossie to succeed her in the House.

Gloria Steinem.

Why does anyone care what this sourfaced saggy titted crepey throated old commie lesbian thinks.

The only true accomplishment of this broad in her whole life has been to be a royal pain in the a^^ to all and sundry.

Steinem on Governor Palin:

"I get no pleasure from imagining her in the spotlight on national and foreign policy issues about which she has zero background.."

Carolyn Maloney is an airhead. I hope she gets chosen. She’d give the GOP a real shot at winning.

This is the “fairness doctrine” the Democrats will impose on all of us. They categorize citizens entirely by the color of skin and gender - proving they have no connection whatsoever to Martin Luther King’s dream of a color-blind society.

The selection of Roland Burris is appropriate power retention maintenance - replace a young inexperienced liberal Dem male of mixed race with an old liberal dem male of similar skin tone.

Replace a white, semi-privileged liberal Dem female with a wreckless husband: Hilary Clinton - with a white, privileged female liberal Dem with several wreckless relatives: Caroline Kennedy.

Fair and balanced.

What makes things even more interesting is that Roland Burris is NOT a product of the Chicago machine, hailing from downstate Centralia in the coal belt. Let's also not forget Burris's good friend Bobby Rush's strong personal hatred (and jealous resentment) of Obama.

I have been eating alot of popcorn watching this unfold.

Look at them try to manage Princess Caroline who has divine right to hold office. I’m sure the local rat state Senator and Assembly members in Silk Stocking have no interest in the seat and would defer to her highness.

Despite the word I’m gonna go out on a limb and say his blindness bypasses her highness and picks someone else. He has nothing to gain by appointing her.

I’m torn on whether to support Kirseten G(J)Illibrand for the post. I want her house seat back but would she be a strong GE candidate?
