Golfers face going deaf from the "sonic boom" created when their clubs strike the ball, doctors have warned.

A report in the latest edition of the British Medical Journal claims that some players are at risk if they use a new generation of thin-faced titanium drivers that help propel the ball further.

The booming noise the metal club head makes when it strikes the ball was found by ear specialists to have reduced the hearing of a 55-year-old golfer.

It has to be said that some of those clubs make a heck of a loud "thwock!" noise, I'd imagine they would cause hearing damage after a while.

As one ages, one’s hearing deteriorates. After decades of marriage I recognize that reality as merciful.

“thwock!” is the sound of golf, “ping!” is the sound of pasture pansies.

The last time I golfed I only hit two good balls all day...and THAT was when I stepped on a rake in the sand trap.

Could it be the age of the golfer and not the club?

” “thwock!” is the sound of golf, “ping!” is the sound of pasture pansies. “

And “tink” is the sound of an aluminum bat, hence the demise of sandlot baseball. Who the heck gets up on a summer’s day with the anticipation of the “tink” of the bat ringing in their heads?

Well come to think of it I’ve been playing golf all my life and have been playing with the new thin walled drivers for some time now. I’m hard of hearing according to my wife. Any hungry lawyers out there want to take my case?
