For Israel, Chance to Strike Before an Ally Departs (Israel recognizes Obama as the liar he is)

For nine days, as European and United Nations officials have called urgently for a cease-fire in Gaza, the Bush administration has squarely blamed the rocket attacks of the Palestinian militant group Hamas for Israel’s assault, maintaining to the end its eight-year record of stalwart support for Israel.

Mr. Bush, in his weekly radio address on Saturday, said the United States did not want a “one-way cease-fire” that allowed Hamas to keep up its rocket fire, and Vice President Dick Cheney on Sunday echoed the point, declaring that only a “sustainable, durable” peace would be acceptable.

Many Middle East experts say Israel timed its move against Hamas, which began with airstrikes on Dec. 27, 24 days before Mr. Bush leaves office, with the expectation of such backing in Washington. Israeli officials could not be certain that President-elect Barack Obama,

They constantly referred to him as Mr. Bush ...

They have done the very same thing to President George W. Bush, from day one! They have been joined by many republicans, conservatives and FReepers. They all disgust me!

to diminish him in the eyes of the voters

Exactly - and it has worked!

Most of the Jewish Obama supporters want Israel to submit to a cease fire and end the incursions. What idiots!

“President-elect Obama is closely monitoring global events, including the situation in Gaza, but there is one president at a time,” said Brooke Anderson, chief national security spokeswoman for Mr. Obama, repeating what has become a mantra for the incoming administration.

NOW he hides behind this. Up until now, he's been strutting and spouting as if he were already king - ah, president.

He's in between a rock and his lies. He dare not show his anti-Israel feelings yet - and won't condemn those with whom his sympathies lie - his muzzies friends and family.

Actually, Obama probably encouraged Israel to move before he takes office, so that by the time he is sworn in the offensive will have run its course and he can call for a pullback or truce

Thanks for the laugh.

Israel taking advice from Obama...........that's so ludicrous in so many ways, I can't even find the words...

Obama can fool some of the people some of the time but not all the people all the time. I was using the word Israel in terms of the Government of Israel.

Too true.
He can step in poo and come out smelling like a rose. The media whores will certainly be licking his boots for the next 4 years trying to turn it into an 8 year love affair.

No defender of the Slimes here, (In fact I am proud to have introduced their true name, 'Slimes') but they generally refer to all adult men as MR. Are you sure they waived that policy for Clinton?

Yes, Obama is a different stripe than Billyboy was. Barack is more of a pure narcissist while Clinton has the more familiar stigmata of the psychopath. This should not be taken as cause for reassurance however. Narcissism and psychopathy are first cousins and under stress one can trigger the other.

...why did Israelis contact relatives in the States and urge them to vote for Obama?

That never happened to any large extent! Polls done among Israelis showed McCain significantly ahead of Obama as their choice for the US presidency - one of the very few foreign countries in the world where that was true. Furthermore, among Americans in Israel actually voting in the US presidential election by absentee ballot, exit polling showed McCain with about a 3 to 1 margin over "Osama" Obama.

If you read this entire NY Simes article, you get the feeling that one of the major underlying purposes of it is to tell O that his buddies in the Arab world don’t appreciate his reticence on the current conflict.

Remember when Clinton’s blue dress made the news - Clinton launched a huge air raid on Baghdad that weekend for “violations” of the treaty Saddam had after GW1. In fact Clinton used the pretext of those “treaty violations” a lot during his terms to put competing stories on the air.
