GMA Manages Not To Mention Why Richardson Went
NewsBusters ^ | Mark Finkelstein

Posted on 01/05/2009 5:51:53 AM PST by governsleastgovernsbest

In its opening half-hour, Good Morning America told us--twice--that Pres.-elect Obama choked up with emotion as he was packing up his old house. But somehow ABC couldn't find time to mention that a possible pay-to-play scheme was behind Bill Richardson's bye-bye as Commerce Secretary nominee.

After the show-opening roll in which the president elect was shown heading to DC, Robin Roberts literally bounced in her co-anchor's chair: "so excited, so excited, so excited . . . It's a new day, new year, new everything going on." Added Diane Sawyer helpfully: "And a president-elect." "Yes," concurred Robin, as if it wasn't clear that's what her excitement was really all about.

Then came the first mention of the Pres.-elect getting misty. Roberts: "He was home alone in Chicago. And one of Malia's friends came over and had a little scrapbook that he wanted delivered to his ten-year old, and he was flipping through it, and I would imagine, got a little choked up." When senior political correspondent Jake Tapper came on, he provided crucial additional details about the warm and fuzzy moment, complete with a clip of the president-elect recounting the story to reporters. But Tapper gave short shrift to the Richardson matter, and, appearing later, George Stephanopoulos was equally tight-lipped.

GMA has time to tell us Obama got misty but not about Richardson’s pay-to-play ping to Today show list.

I hate to see Obama “misty”. He should stay in Chicago and keep the Illinois Senate seat. Fixes everything.

Oh, and of course the goons at GMA would skip over Bill Richardson. I’m not surprised at all. Didn’t see it but I just flipped it on now.

I wonder who wrote the script for the warm and fuzzy scrapbook moment? Did he have a teleprompter? How fortunate they caught that not-so-impromptu moment on film.

It's kind of odd that a guy who hardly ever spent any time there would get all teary-eyed about taking leave of his house. Doesn't he plan to return for a visit during the next four years? Or will he be moving on to better "vacation White House" digs -- in Hawaii, for instance, and creating some space between himself and his embarrassing Chicago friends?

I love it.

I can’t stand to watch GMA but my guess is they gave Scooter Libby plenty of airtime and all the pseudo-juicy detials.

OK, call me lazy for not looking it up myself,

but what is the “official story” and the “real reason” for Richardson being booted?

Under federal investigation for “pay to play” for a contractor that gave a significant amount of money to Richardson’s campaign and wound up with a state contract.

Since when is GMA considered a news program. It is nothing more than a coffee clatch/hen party.

all these morning shows (unless they’ve dramatically changed since I quit watching the nonsense they promote a few years ago) just attach themselves to the latest fads or celebrities. and they are some of the least intelligent people I’ve ever come across in my lifetime. that’s if they can get a sentence out while they are drooling.

Interesting point. By coincidence, when I loaded the video to NewsBusters flash video site, I actually classified the story under “bribery.” Of course nothing’s been proved. Richardson has not been formally accused, much less convicted, and he certainly enjoys the presumption of innocence. But you’re right that pay-to-play is a euphemism and that what we’re talking about is an investigation of possible bribery.

If Bill Richardson had been properly vetted by the press DURING the 2008 campaign, this would not have been an issue.

Shillary hasn’t been vetted either.

Wait until she has to speak out about Peter Paul. Millions of Saudi donations to her husband’s lie-brary (that money is being used to pay for her election campaign debt, making them foreign election contributions).

Good grief, no need to watch the video as witnessing it once was enough. They were more interested in showing us a REPLAY of Sasha's little head peeping out of the limo as she was heading off to school.

Thought NBC would go the same route but surprise surprise they did mention "pay for play" and the fact Obama's vetting process failed. However Chuck Todd seemed to downplay the process saying Obama was trying to appease Hispanic voters and rushed the appointment which Richardson may not have been suited for.

When Democrats are concerned, the media makes sure that any wrongdoing is “alleged”: that is, if they can be made to report on it at all. Whereas the faintest odor of Republican malfeasance always brings forth a blizzard of media coverage whose purpose is to create a blanket not of reported allegations but of presumptive guilt.

“the fact Obama’s vetting process failed”

Doubt that, they just got caught.

It is the pinnacle of arrogance to nominate as commerce secretary someone who is dirty like this, in a time like this. Amazing.

I haven't convicted ole Bill of bribery yet! :)

I find "Pay-for-Play" another word-game liberals in the media conjure up to downplay or soften Democrat corruption or immorality.

Sorta like Big Media leaving off a "D" when naming corrupt Democrats.

Saying Gov. Richardson is being investigated for 'bribery', well that sounds too mean and criminal. ...they'll simply say "Pay-for-Play" is being investigated in New Mexico.

Or say nothing like GMA did this morning.

Newsbusters has been really good at pointing out the bias that Big Media has in how corrupt officials from the different parties are reported on.

Diane Sawyer, Robin Roberts, and George Stephanopoulos are just a bunch of spinners, who spin things their way, trying to get people to vote for their guy, and so they need not be believed.

I expected such a thing when Bill Richardson betrayed Hillary Clinton. The Clintons let it slip about some dirt I bet. Watch Wesley Clark will be the next to go—Its Called Revenge and the Clinton’s are as good as any of the Borgias. At least Richardson is still alive, for now.
