The Lesson of the 1930s that Obama Refuses to Learn
BrookesNews.com ^ | December 8, 2008 | Gerard Jackson

Inspired by FDR, Obama and his fellow Dems promise a "New Deal" economic program that will pull the country out of recession and put it on the road to sustained economic growth. What dangerous nonsense. Democrats, particularly Obama and his advisors, haven't got a clue as to what really happened during the '30s. This is because they are a pack of intellectual sponges rather than thinkers. (And please, don't mention Bernanke).

If it were otherwise they would have taken the time and trouble to investigate that greatly misunderstood period in American economic history. What I hope do here is provide a brief — all too brief, unfortunately — summary of the reasons why America found itself mired in a deep recession for some 12 years.

This new president will preside over a nation becoming increasingly similar to that portrayed in the movie "Idiocracy".

It is highly entertaining, yet prophetic.

Good read. We can learn a lot from history if we only pay attention...Oh well, I guess we’re screwed!

New TV show “Are you smarter than Odummer?”

The answer is yes. Odummer doesn’t listen to anything but Marxists claptrap.

You assume that this is a accident and not deliberate!

I do not.

The Socialist DemocRATic party wants to bring the country to poverty so they can save us.

I think for many on the left, Marxism is their religion.

My sister did a little reading on narcissists and it was pointed out the there is at least one narcissist in almost every church, on every PTA, every school board and county council. These people have to be in control and need constant re-enforcement of how great and smart they are. For some reason, I think that the Baby Boomer generation produces an abundance of narcissists and they are everywhere, but Marxism seemed to have special appeal to many of them.

High taxes plus artificially higher wages (via minimum wage) plus restricted trade (Smoot-Hawley) plus stupid regulations (Glass-Steagall) all = massive depression. Obama will likely re-enact most of these.

Words to “Big Rock Candy Mountain”:

One evening as the sun went down and the jungle fire was burning
Down the track came a hobo hiking and he said boys I’m not turning
I’m headin for a land that’s far away beside the crystal fountains
So come with me we’ll go and see the Big Rock Candy Mountains

In the Big Rock Candy Mountains there’s a land that’s fair and bright
Where the handouts grow on bushes and you sleep out every night
Where the boxcars are all empty and the sun shines every day
On the birds and the bees and the cigarette trees
Where the lemonade springs where the bluebird sings
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains

In the Big Rock Candy Mountains all the cops have wooden legs
And the bulldogs all have rubber teeth and the hens lay soft boiled eggs
The farmer’s trees are full of fruit and the barns are full of hay
Oh, I’m bound to go where there ain’t no snow
Where the rain don’t fall and the wind don’t blow
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains

In the Big Rock Candy Mountains you never change your socks
And the little streams of alcohol come a-trickling down the rocks
The brakemen have to tip their hats and the railroad bulls are blind
There’s a lake of stew and of whiskey too
You can paddle all around ‘em in a big canoe
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains

In the Big Rock Candy Mountains the jails are made of tin
And you can walk right out again as soon as you are in
There ain’t no short handled shovels, no axes saws or picks
I’m a goin to stay where you sleep all day
Where they hung the jerk that invented work
In the Big Rock Candy Mountains

We certainly need to learn from the mistakes of the 30’s but that article is a very poor argument for that case. While the NIRA was destructive in many ways its impact was limited because it was only in place for less than two years. Secondly, the NIRA was written by businessmen in each specific business field. Manufacturers were decidedly against it, but the overall business community was for it, demanded it and crafted it. Poor example by Mr. Jackson.

It is not necessarily that the obamunist didn’t learn anything, but that their goals may not include prosperity or economic revival. Prosperity is not conducive to total power and socialism. Hard Times is. The worse the economy appears to be the more economy damaging the measures that can be passed and the more the government can get away with in taking over the economy altogether. FDR started with the government representing a very tiny portion of the economic system and managed to take over another 20% or so. That was a huge increase in the size of the government and in the amount of government influence and control on the economy. Hussein will be starting from what is already a sizable government presence and level of control. If he and his can take just 20% more, they will have put themselves close to control of half of the economy or more and social controls will be boosted from that power base a lot more than 20%. The left/government will be then in position to simply transform the remains of the free market into a command economy and equality of the ruled will become a near reality albeit at a level we now call “poverty.”

“EVERYONE GET A HOLD OF FDR’s FOLLY - How he PROLONGED the Depression by Jim Powell”

Don’t need to, lived it and was taught to despise FDR from birth!

We currently have 3 generations that need a depression.

What we don’t need is a government stimulus plan and/or bailouts that will only prolong the depresion that they cannot stop.
