THOMASVILLE, GA (WALB) - A 5-year-old girl was killed by her family's pitbull dogs in Thomasville.
Monday evening in the confines of a fence marked with a sign "Beware of Dog," three dogs attacked and killed one of their owners, five-year-old Chyenne Peppers.
Neighbors didn't want their names or faces on camera but said they heard the shouting in her backyard at 105 Executive Drive.
"I heard some screaming and carrying on and I just assumed they were out playing," says the woman.
The Peppers own three pit bulls. Animal control says one was roaming loose in the yard, the other two were chained up.
"The child was possibly playing on the trampoline. The female dog who was pregnant possibly started the attack on the child," says Assistant Commander Melvin Johnson with the Thomasville Police Department.
The two other pit bulls were close behind her. They broke free of their chains and joined in on the attack of the helpless little girl.
"You need to remember that a dog is a dog and its going to act like a dog especially in a pack situation and that's what these animals did," says Executive Director of the Thomas County Humane Society Carol Jones.
"The dogs attacked pretty much the complete body," says Johnson.
Police say Chyenne's mother, stepdad, and sister were in the house when she was attacked. but when they realized what happened, it was too late. She died at Archbold Memorial Hospital shortly after.
"In talking with the humane society they have received several calls in the past that they had gotten out and there had been some complaints the dogs had attacked a neighbors pet in the past," says Johnson.
The Peppers family turned their dogs over to Animal Control to be euthanized. But any criminal charges in the child's death..are still up in the air.
"That determination has not been made whether if someone will or will not be charged," says Johnson.
"I just want to remind people they need to be cautious of their family pets. They can turn on you at any time, and it doesn't matter what kind of dog. You think they are wonderful. You don't think your dog would do anything like that but believe me they will," said Jones.
A reminder that one family heard too late.
An autopsy will be done on Chyenne Peppers' body Wednesday in Atlanta.
Animal Control workers remind you that dogs sometimes mistake children as prey or a threat because they have high pitched voices and often make sudden fast movements.
its time to euthanize all pitbulls
*********...its time to euthanize all pitbull...*****
and their irresponsible owners.
Works for me.
Cue up the pit bull apologists.
That works for me also.
If you see one running lose, do America a favor and eliminate it. It is your civic duty!!
Humans are so bad-assed that they keep CARNIVORES for pets. Dedicated meat-eaters. Creatures that play with prey to listen to the squeak.
Fluffy eats meat. Spot eats meat.
We're meat with attitude.
Children must be protected around pets.
Clueless humans...

That poor girl. Prayers for her and her family.
And this statement is so true, “I just want to remind people they need to be cautious of their family pets. They can turn on you at any time, and it doesn’t matter what kind of dog. You think they are wonderful. You don’t think your dog would do anything like that but believe me they will,” said Jones.”
Years ago we knew some people who had a beautiful, sweet dog....a retriever mix. But when she was pregnant they had to keep her away from some people because she acted like she wanted to attack. Once the pups were born and a couple of months went by, she was back to her sweet old self.
Brother I agree with you.
Well, sadly enough I guessed the breed correctly. Again.
How about the owners and their breeders?
Cue the mindless pitbull owners defending their little killers in 3,2,1....
Apologists? Where are you?
Unlike guns, dogs kill people.
Rottweilers, put bulls.
Extinction is in order.
I am not a “mindless” pitbull owner, never had one. However, I cannot lay blame on the dogs but to whomever bred some of this breed to be mindless killers.
Yes, I have come across the breed and have been nervous, but they showed nothing but love. And guess what....I am alive and UNBIT!!!!
Make that rottweilers, put bulls AND pit bulls.
Here I am!
There are plenty of people who want to outlaw pit bulls, but I'm not one who wants them to be banned. We live in what was once a free country and I would like us to be free again. Freedom, however, means making choices, responsibility and consequences. These people were not responsible, made some bad choices and the loss of their child should only be the beginning of the consequences they now get to experience.
I used to own an Amstaff, do I count as "mindless?" He never killed anyone, though.
I will say that these parents should be put in jail forever. Letting a 5 y.o. girl play unsupervised in a yard with three intact (presumably) PBT's, with documented aggressive behavior, with one of them being pregnant and two of them chained....that's criminal stupidity.
But they were just sweet dogs! “ I just don’t know what happened?”
Those parents let that child play in that yeard with thsoe killer dogs, one of whome was pregnant...and didn’t protect her.
I am having a very very very hard time sympathizing with these adults!
Amen TPB.
I cannot stand pit bulls. Please do not tell me it’s the owner, nope it’s the dog. Pit bulls have been bred to kill in a pit, they cannot be trusted ever.
“Apologists? Where are you?
Unlike guns, dogs kill people.”
Huh? Maybe you ought to hang around here a bit more before posting.
“I am having a very very very hard time sympathizing with these adults!”
I agree. I’m coming to the conclusion that anyone with a pit bull is a gang banger or a want to be. There is really no reason for this breed.
Well, OK. I missed the sarcasm. It must have been well hidden.
The parents will beg mercy, for they lost a daughter.
Regardless of their upbringing or training or the love they are given, their jaws lock in in such a way, it is very difficult to free them from their victim. Other dogs bite, but most do not have the massive locking jaw.
Or you just did not want to see it.
WWII......Jews
Is that where?
I'd like to see some stats on fatal cat attacks.
Every pitbull has the potential...But not all pit bulls are chained in the yard, socially neglected and left to stew in their own company.
It amazes me that even though these dogs were treated this way, the report tries to make them sound like family pets that just snapped. It’s misleading.
The owners knew they were dangerous and didn’t care enough to protect their daughter.
I have difficulty with the mother saying she “just thought they were playing.” A child’s screams being attacked by a pit bull hardly sounds like a 5 yr old playing!
“Or you just did not want to see it.”
It’s your story.
Again, it is their breeding and upbringing. Ever try to remove a dog intent on "bringing an enemy down"?
And- amid all this horror- the lie:
Beware your dog, no matter the breed.
All dogs are NOT equally dangerous when provoked or enraged.
I do not fear my 9 lb Maltipoo, no matter how bad tempered he might get.
Pitbulls are to other dogs as Godzilla is to regular lizards.
They should not be near children-ever.
It's the owner.
Pit bulls have been bred to kill in a pit, they cannot be trusted ever.
Never ever?
Quite true. Any dog may bite, but many lack the ability to inflict much harm, even if they'd like to.
Ya know....some people will have you HUNG, just for that photo!!!!
But catz do sometimes attack.
But, Dear Lord..... if you have kiddies, and pets.... The kidz are food until they are old enough to have attitude. Catz or dogs.
Parents are responsible for their babies. Period. Paragraph. Slam home the return bar.

I agree. I live in town. I don’t have pets because I don’t want them in my house, don’t want them penned in or tied up.
MANY who choose pit bulls over any other breed do so BECAUSE of their violent, dangerous reputation.
How better to show how ‘bad’ and ‘tough’ you are than to have ‘control’ of a dangerous animal?
Their temporary illusion of ‘control’ too often ends with the death of a child- not them.
Another lovable PitBull, or so they keep telling us.
Poor child, what a horrible thing.
Aw, are they yours?
They’re both adorable.
I agree.
And the first sign of an irresponsible pit bull owner, is an owner who thinks their dog is different and wouldn't hurt a fly.
The parents are criminally liable and should be prosecuted for involuntary manslaughter at the least.
