AVAST Home Edition is free and can be found at avast.com. Works on XP/VISTA and others. I switched to it on all of my PC’s about a year ago and haven’t had any issues.
They will pry my Windows XP from my cold dead fingers.
They will pry my Windows XP from my cold dead fingers.
Hopefully Windows 7 will completely bypass Vista and its problems
But I haven’t learned to make Vista work yet.

What angered me is when I discovered that after purchasing a new computer that was ONLY available with Vista, that Vista would not run some very expensive programs that would run with XP Pro. This alone was enough for me to wipe the hard drive and install Linux.
I use Vista very heavily on a daily basis - what issues should I be seeing that I am currently not seeing?
Oh goody. Another source of the blue screen of death.
I’ll keep my money thanks.
No one had a choice. Vista has depressed PC sales to corporation and has also helped Apple increase their market share. This is a fact and I am no Apple fan at all. Dell practically begged MSFT to let them continue to offer XP as an option. I like XP, XP Pro and 2000. They are excellent. Even NT 4.0 was, in most cases, very stable.
MSFT changed all the idioms on Office and more companies did not want it.
You are missing out on a lot of security and scalability improvements.
Heaven help us all.
What problems?
AVG. You can get a free version. Download it from their web site.
Did you very expensive program run under Linux? What was the name of the program?
This reminds me of Windows ME. It was so bad that people were reverting back to Windows 98 SE. Then Microsoft created Windows XP out of the backlash of ME. Windows XP was/is great. So I hope Windows 7 follows the mantra of Windows XP. Go from Windows 98SE (good, reliable OS) to Windows ME (crappy, unreliable OS) to Windows XP (good, reliable OS) to Windows Vista (crappy, unreliable OS) and then go to Windows 7 (good, reliable OS?). See a pattern here! Windows 95 was a reliable OS, but Windows 98 first edition was not. That is why Windows 98SE came out.
Most corporate sales are already covered by one of the various Microsoft volume licensing plans which still allow XP.
I will only give up XP Pro if the OS isn’t chocked full of DRM nazi Barbara Streisand. I will be the one in charge of my digital files, not Bill Gates. F@$& DRM and the DMCA.
