Roland Burris, Gov. Rod Blagojevich's controversial choice to replace President-elect Barack Obama in the US Senate, has already begun work on his memorial in Oak Woods Cemetery on Chicago's South Side. His tombstone boldly proclaims, "Trail Blazer" and includes a list of his accomplishments.
See the memorial for yourself and tell us what you think it should say in light of recent Blago-related events.
I played THE card.
He forgot to mention he was in the glee club.
Since his skin color is most important thing to him, I wonder what precautions he will take to prevent from turning into a skinless skeleton in death?
I would say he would be the First Crooked Black Senator from Illinois, but I guess he’ll just be the second crooked black senator from Illinois.
wow — i thought only Pharohs started working on their Death Monuments before actually dying...
I think he has just enough room to add:
First African-American to serve Illinois as a Senator without being elected.
First African-American Senator to be impeached and removed from office.
First chair flute in the W.E.B. Dubois Elementary School band.
“I think that I shall never see,
A magic black man quite like me.
A list of accomplishments I can show,
The best of which was knowing Ron Blago.
Political intrigue I was no stranger to,
I could play the race card, too.
I was the smartest Affirmative Action hire you’ll ever see.
Not even Harry Reid could fool with me.”
A little full of himself, isn’t he?
And a white skinless skeleton at that.
Be SO tempting to add (neatly, so no one notices, at first) some of these captions.
Should Burris want to be eternally remembered, he should be aware of another who — long ago — wished for that.
The followiing is Percy Bysshe Shelley’s “Ozymandias” (the Greek name for Ramses II of Egypt- 13 B.C.).
I met a traveller from an antique land,
Who said— “Two vast and trunkless legs of stone
Stand in the desert. . . Near them, on the sand,
Half sunk a shattered visage lies, whose frown,
And wrinkled lip, and sneer of cold command,
Tell that its sculptor well those passions read
Which yet survive, stamped on these lifeless things,
The hand that mocked them, and the heart that fed;
And on the pedestal, these words appear:
My name is Ozymandias, King of Kings,
Look on my Works, ye Mighty, and despair!
Nothing beside remains. Round the decay
Of that colossal Wreck, boundless and bare
The lone and level sands stretch far away.”
Would that leave Carol Mosley-Braun or Obama as the honest one?
Was she a senator from Illinois? Or is it a trifecta of crooks?
Yes and Yes. Well trifecta mean three right? Theres alot more where those three came from. What is bigger than a herd?

“What is bigger than a herd?”
Well, I think sheep travel in a “gaggle” (probably more correctly, a “flock” but I’ve heard it both ways -— and I raise sheep).
Gaggle of corrupt senators sounds better, anyway.
