Global warming is caused by Liberals. The BEST way to keep the planet from warming is to
1) Cover the mouths of Liberals with Duct Tape,
2) Place Liberals in underground prisons (ambient temperature in caves will cool the hot air),
3) Send Liberals to Africa because there’s already hot air there. They could help the Africans build irrigation ditches, etc.

The argument is quite simple really.

We know that global warmings have occurred several times before the existence of Man. Even if we don't understand how or why, we know for certain that Nature can do it. Therefore, any argument about the causes of global warming must begin with the assumption that it is natural.

In order to argue that the Mankind is the cause, it must first be shown, beyond doubt, that Nature cannot be the cause. But since we don't understand the climate well enough to completely explain the natural variations, then we don't understand it well enough to prove that the current variations aren't natural. So the first essential hurdle has not been met.

Then there are the other problems:

Global warming has not occurred for ten years.
The predictions of greenhouse gas theory (rate of temperature increase in the tropical troposphere) are inconsistent with observations.

AGW fails on all fronts.

You got 1940$⁴ in the paragraph before figure 1. I read the html version. For some reason figures 3 and 4 did not appear on my first viewing, but they were there when I viewed it a second time to verify my memory.

That's my only complaint. It's the best original essay that I've read on this forum. You got great timing too in this winter of our discontent. Keep up the great work. I'm pinging everyone on my lists.

This article is a good illustration of how when one uses only a couple of so-called ‘truths’ to prove a larger point.....and those ‘truths’ are not substantiated in themselves, then the larger point is obviously, moot! The problem that I have is that the global warming alarmists have a slightly different take on the basic assumptions.

I will take the liberty of rephrasing your assumptions, the way they see it.

Fact:
Greenhouse gasses cause the atmospheric temperature to be higher than atmospheres without them.

Higher concentrations of Greenhouse gasses cause higher temperatures.

CO2 is a greenhouse gas.

Fact: Since the beginning of the industrial age,

1. human activity has produced large amounts of CO2
2. atmospheric levels of CO2 have been increasing.
3. global temperatures (on average) have been rising.

The concept is no more difficult or complex than putting on a coat. It is not a scientific theory per se, any more than there is a scientific theory that we exist. It is simply a fact to them.

It is very hard to reason them out of a position that seems so obvious.
