Link only - Ex-Weight Watchers worker gets 10 years for stealing nearly $1M
Living off the fat of the land? A million bucks should keep her well stocked.
I’m always happy to see embezzlers face justice.
Weight watchers smart ones frozen meals are pretty good.
This happens to small businesses more often than one might think. In most cases, the business owner dislikes or doesn’t have time or ability to do the bookkeeping, so he farms it out to an employee. The business owner usually doesn’t catch the embezzler until the embezzler gets greedy enough to cause the business’s checks start bouncing.
After her sentence, Belk flopped to the floor outside the courtroom in the Hinds County Detention Center, crying uncontrollably in a corner. Relatives tried to comfort the hysterical woman.
As a first-time, nonviolent offender, Belk could be eligible for parole after serving 15 months.
During sentencing, Belk told Yerger she was sorry and blamed her actions on an addiction to gambling.
"It forced me to do things I would have never thought of doing," Belk said. "I wouldn't intentionally try to hurt anyone. I'm sick."
Belk had written an average of two checks each week to herself in addition to her paycheck, Jacobs said.
Apparently you've got to pinch BILLIONS in frozen desserts before you get the penthouse holding tank.
> As a first-time, nonviolent offender, Belk could be eligible for parole after serving 15 months.
Bloody tragic. Fifteen months is enough time for her to get some treatment for her gambling problem and get herself sorted. I hope she gets the help she clearly needs.
> During sentencing, Belk told Yerger she was sorry and blamed her actions on an addiction to gambling.
Gambling is a tax on the mathematically-challenged and the criminally stupid. Given its very high social cost and very low (negative) social benefit, it ought to be unlawful and governments ought not have anything to do with it.
> “It forced me to do things I would have never thought of doing,” Belk said. “I wouldn’t intentionally try to hurt anyone. I’m sick.”
I hope that the Parole Board takes an informed and intelligent view here. Ten years is a decent sentence for a crime of this nature. If she gets treatment and turns herself around, fifteen months is probably adequate: there won’t be much sense in keeping her inside longer.
Madoff won’t serve ten years, I reckon.
“During sentencing, Belk told Yerger she was sorry and blamed her actions on an addiction to gambling.”
I bet she’ll be the only one in that prison who is “sorry and blamed her actions on an addiction..” After all, everyone in prison is innocent, just ask them.
GUILTY!
(gavel)
Yes but in her case, she wasn’t so smart, was she?
10 years for trimmin’ a little fat? There’s food for thought.
Believe it or not this woman is my son’s next door neighbor
and my grandson really enjoyed swimming in the pool WWs bought for her.
I hope he peed in it. the pool I mean
I will dare say that was a tacky and juvenile comment to somebody’s grandmother.
Good grief, this isn’t a middle-school boy’s bathroom wall you’re writing on, sir.
If yer fiscally fat at a Phat Farm yer more likely a fallible felon that is gonna fry !
Living off the fat of the land, so to speak... (smirk)
