The man arrested at Los Angeles International Airport with a trunk full of guns and nearly 1,000 rounds of ammunition said Saturday that he is a law-abiding weapons enthusiast who had no idea he might be breaking the law.
A day after he was arrested for suspicion of felony transportation of an assault rifle, Phillip Dominguez said he's confident he'll be exonerated.
"Our Second Amendment rights are being trampled in the name of law enforcement," Dominguez said. "I'm a law-abiding, taxpaying gun enthusiast. I have no felonies - up until now."

Under Federal Law one cannot take a firearm past the security stations.
Now California or some other sub-unit of government may have their own rules, such as was contested in Atlanta.
That aside, Dominguez was charged not with the above but of not directly going to the range and detouring to the airport.
Many anti-second amendment ares have a rule stating the shooter must go directly to the range with no stops.
I loved SoCal back when there were still working ranches and common sense.

Ten to one that if the police were profiling like they should be, this fine upstanding man would have never been searched ;-)
But, he was going to enter airport property with them and that is prohibited.
Come to think of it, I’ve carried three guns and well over 100 rounds of ammo directly into an airport. Hundreds of people do this daily. Its known as a hunting trip.
I don't know Travis, the guy was a "construction contractor" and has been lugging his armory around for months, according to the article. It doesn't smell right.

I just mean that people need to be paranoid when getting near an airport in general. Having even locked-up guns anywhere near an airport is a very bad idea.
A law-abiding citizen gets arrested for complying with a police officer’s request and winds up getting arrested.
Ask a Muslim to remove his turban to see if he’s hiding anything up there and you will be sure to get a lawsuit...

I agree. With your entire post. I take patterns of behavior and project them into future patterns of behavior (I study terrorism) and yes, I can see where you’re coming from. In fact, the model is right there in Great Britain. Remember their Olympic shooting team and the problem they had with “exclusion zones”? Parliament Square, IIRC. And yes, it’ll gain support from a credulous public...it’s ‘for the children’, of course.
The stop was made at a checkpoint just before entering the airport property. There is no other place to go after the checkpoint, but the airport. In another article, I had read he was meeting someone at LAX.
It’s not what’s stupid in your eyes, it’s what’s illegal under crazy laws that is important and at issue here.
I’m not allowed to protect myself when I go pick someone up at the airport that is about 40 miles from my house and in a bad part of the city?
