I often wonder how liberals can stand watching 24, given how often and how effectively it challenges so many liberal premises. But then I recall how often the liberal squishyness of Law & Order annoys me, yet I never miss an episode. I guess if a show entertains you enough, or perhaps challenges your preconceptions effectively enough, most of us will put up with it.
But irritate liberals it has.
After the show was criticized - by the U.S. Army, no less - for its depiction of heroic CTU agent Jack Bauer (Kiefer Sutherland) torturing bad guys as a means to an end (saving the day), the series now sits Bauer before a Senate hearing about his actions.
Last night's season premiere promised that it will continue to do so. Predictably after watching tonight's premiere, lib reporterette Alessandra Stanley of the New Yor Times, finds her panties in a bunch...

Loved it. Especially his 5 minutes in front of the Senate panel.
bump for later read
:o)
They kidnapped that guy, drove him back to their lair, softened him up and he built a working gizmo — all in 20 minutes?
C’mon......
What’s up with Jeanine Garafolo?
LOL. The show irritates me as a result of its incredible predictability. Quite like Law and Order, now that I think about it, without all of the explosions.
Oddly enough, Bauer never seems to torture the wrong guys, or the ones that don’t really know much??!!!
MacGyver would have done it in 10 minutes, and made the gizmo with nothing but a chewing gum wrapper and a paperclip.
“how effectively it challenges so many liberal premises.”
Yeh, like the idea of having a black president. :-(
All the “24 has wimped out!” stuff I saw on FR yesterday made me tune in. Seeing him get grilled by the libs at a hearing and saying he would torture the terrorist again if it meant saving kids lives was awesome.
If this is wimping out, how macho was the show before?
The premiere was last night? Crap! I missed it.
She’s a homely little troll — added I suppose to keep the show from being too glamorous.
She was clueless, incompetent, and frankly irrelevant on the broadcast last night. She wasn't "acting", she was still just being Jeanine.
I wondered the same thing. She probably really needs the work considering the status of her movie and radio career.
Jeneane Garafolo is looking a little, er, worn around the edges.
Loved the scene in the beginning of the Congressional Hearings. Showed just how much of a farce they are in real life.
I liked the part where he was going to poke the guy’s eye out with a ballpoint pen when he wouldn’t tell where Tony was hiding. Wonder if that’s considered torture? /sarc Evidently the new female FBI agent is as much into “expendiency” as Bauer.
