Olmert says called Bush to force change in U.N. vote

Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert said a telephone call he made to U.S. President George W. Bush last week forced Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice to abstain in a U.N. vote on the Gaza war, leaving her "shamed."

Pouring on political bravado in a speech late Monday, Olmert said he demanded to talk to Bush with only 10 minutes to spare before a U.N. Security Council vote Thursday on a resolution opposed by Israel calling for an immediate cease-fire.

"When we saw that the secretary of state, for reasons we did not really understand, wanted to vote in favour of the U.N. resolution ... I looked for President Bush and they told me he was in Philadelphia making a speech," Olmert said.

"I said, 'I don't care. I have to talk to him now,'" Olmert said, describing Bush, who leaves office on January 20, as "an unparalleled friend" of Israel.

When I first began reading this article, I was outraged, but then I noticed that it was by Reuters - AKA - "The only good Jew is a dead Jew" network...

Do I believe any of it? No.

Actually Rice in another interview was bragging about how she wrote UN 1701 that stopped the Israel/Hezbo conflict. I'm not a Condi fan and in many cases, if not all, I believe she has done a potentially great president a huge disservice.
Ever wonder why the MSM always left her alone while attacking everyone else around President Bush?

The Bush family motto should be, “Loyalty Above All”.

The Bush’s don’t get the vision/quality thingy.

It’s a family of manners first, like the incestuous British upper class.

"Pouring on political bravado"

Reuters angle: this caricature of Olmert tries to put a wedge between Israel & US, like "Olmert the devious jew took advantage of Bush & now runs around telling his story" - it's like a 1930s German cartoon, but more subtle

Of course they are trying to put a wedge between the US and Israel but only in preparation of an Obama. When Obama abandons Israel the MSM can come back and claim that it all began on Bush's watch. Condi is supplying the MSM plenty of ammo.

The Security Council needs to call for an immediate and permanent halt to jihad.

This article is just another swipe at Bush. Making him look like a puppet of Olmert. And it makes Rice look like she got bitch-slapped (which, I actually hope is the case).
If it really did happen like this, Olmert should STFU.

of course - we have come to expect this, but that shouldn’t stop us from clearly pointing out the propaganda in terms everyone can understand.

If we had had commentators clearly pointing out the propaganda in the 70s & 80s, it might not have reached the level it did in the 90s, and the ridiculously high level it is now

Condi was appointed by Bush though, and yet we believe that Bush is a good man, swayed by Olmert’s appeal. Should we believe that Bush was just poorly advised to pick her?

“if [..] Olmert should STFU”

exactly the response Reuters was looking for.

Honestly, in general, Olmert should STFU and GTFO. The biggest mitzvah he could do is to resign and retire.

true. but not particularly because of this

a lot of the stuff he does, you wonder if he’s trying to make Israel look bad, like starting hostilities what Christmas Day? Boxing day? BBC made a big deal out of that, for one, like “oh, at christmas, the humanity”. Waiting until the 27th would have been more sensible

Too good to keep to himself. (One could insert a picture of Olmert, smiling, here.) The story has been confirmed from Olmert's office in Israel, although the State Dept, scrambling for a bit of dignity, tries to deny it. I love the bit about how Bush came running when he was called.

Olmert knows he does not need Rice and Bush any more.

Good Lord, Olmert is stupid. Why would ever state something like this in public? Doesn’t he know he’s just giving ammunition to haters of Israel and Jews? After this, I wouldn’t be surprised if his approval rating drops to zero.
