We just went two calendar year without an airplane casualty in the US. With luck, we can pray that this streak gets extended and that all passengers escaped successfully.

NBC reporting it hit a flock of geese...they tried to land in Teterboro NJ but had to rely on the river instead

According to FOX and CNN there appears no fatalities. e.g. everyone’s shook up and cold but okay.

Heard the same, no deaths. In that cold murky water, that is a miracle in itself.
Praise be to God!

As usual most talking heads don’t know what they are talking about...as is the case with that report.

Somewhere else on these threads saying they lost power
but I’m hearing “double bird hit”...?
Will surf around to diff channels

No fatalities from what I have heard, which is great.
How soon can they yank that plane out of the drink, blow dry it, and get it back in service?
To: RVN Airplane Driver
Looks like everyone got off ok. Happy that apparently no one was killed. Now, why not get a line on the plane and start towing it to shallower water. Great way to preserve things for the investigation.

A miracle!
What a decision that pilot made. I know they practice ditching in simulators, but how many have actually made a water landing in a jet? And with such a good outcome?
Thank God for the skill of the crew.

t seems birds blew out both engines. Everyone is safe. Responders were to the plane in 3 minutes.

Wow...the next time the flight attendant is explaining how, in the unlikely event of a water landing, my seat may be used as a flotation device...I’m going to listen!

Flipping back and forth between channels, there appears about a 9:1 ratio of speculation to facts.

Thank God no one was lost.

How long until we hear that global warming caused the geese to be flying around NYC rather than Florida?

I bet none of the passengers was paying attention when the flight attendants did their routine safety drill before take off (”In the event of a water landing....”)
“yeah, yeah.. yawwwn..”

"...NBC reporting it hit a flock of geese..."
If that indeed proves true, one wonders what the leftist anti-hunting crowd will have to say about the crash. There seems to be literally ZILLIONS of "resident geese" in that section of the country. They apparently no longer migrate and can be seen inhabiting many acres of rolling corporate parks alongside highways.

Precisely correct about the water landing. Many think it would be a "soft" way to put down a plane. It's like landing on changing, rough, moving, concrete from what professional pilots explain.
It's great to hear no loss of life via the preliminary reports.

I am going with ice
This step is critical in these weather condidtions
Conditions at LGA
2009.01.15 1951 UTC
Wind from the NNW (340 degrees) at 15 MPH (13 KT)
Visibility 10 mile(s)
Sky conditions mostly cloudy
Temperature 21.0 F (-6.1 C)
Windchill 6 F (-14 C)
Dew Point 7.0 F (-13.9 C) Relative Humidity 53%
Pressure (altimeter) 30.22 in. Hg (1023 hPa)
ob KLGA 151951Z 34013KT 10SM BKN035 M06/M14 A3022 RMK AO2 SLP234 T10611139
Deicing is critical and mandatory. Depending on the WX the ice can build just too fast.
