My guess is that those evangelicals are about as genuine "evangelical" as Catholics for Free Choice are "Catholic."
Just another development as the Messiah is about to mount His Throne (/s)

federal prohibition on workplace discrimination against gays and lesbians, with an exemption for religious organizations.Just great, now I can open "Catholic Auto Repair" and not worry about having to bend over the fender to work on the engine.

Why on earth does this thrust towards “coming together” out rank principle and the value of life itself?
I know the spiritual answer, but how do Christian clergymen reconcile this in their minds? How can they sleep at night? How can they look at themselves in the mirror?

This calls to mind Joseph Bernardin. (God have Mercy on his soul.) He did so much to wreck the Catholic Church in the United States, with his “common ground” garbage. He saw the Church Militant as the “church kumbaya.”

I don’t think they try to reconcile this in their minds.
Joel Hunter is again at the top of this list being used by the Marxists. In addition to his church supporting global warming (the religion of Communism), he’s again willing to give on life issues surrounding abortion and homosexuality.
I think what we have here is a group of men trying to be famous.

Do me a favor. My friend called me in shock re: this newsletter; Tell me if it makes sense to you. (Warning: Long) Frankly, I don't see why this would be shocking at all. Sounds like classic Fr. Raphael.
His point:
- it is an extremely important symbolic moment that an African American could be elected as president (check)
- It is important to judge a man by the quality of his character, not the color of his skin. So, my fellow blacks, don't idolize the man just because he's black (check)
- Øbama is a confirmed, die-hard pro-abortion politician (check)
- Abortion has devastated the African-American community like no others...and there is historical background supporting that assertion, all the way back to Sanger (check)
- As Catholics, we are pro-life. Period. Dot. End of Story (check)
- Regardless of your positions on any other political issue, we should all come together and recognize abortion for the heinous crime it is (check...double check).
Now, yes, he went in a long, drawn out and circuitous path to get there, but the above is basically the summary.
So why was your friend shocked?

I had the not so good pleasure of having to live up in MA for some time. Now the New England area one would think would be conservative as it is mostly Catholic as is my mother in law. Here is the strange thing though, it is liberal. Now my mother in law is the typical Catholic New Englander. She goes to church every Sunday and harps on about God here and there. She then goes and becomes a Democrat again after church. Doesn't make sense so I asked her why she votes for the Dems and yet she is supposed to be a Catholic As expected I had rattled her cage and she replies that she always has been and she likes JFK I told her that you are supposed to be against homo's abortion, contraceptives etc and yet you vote for everything your faith stands for. no answer but anyway I asked a lot of people the same question when I lived up there and not once did I ever get a straight answer, They're like robots who walk to the voting booth totally dumb and ignorant. Why those priests up there do not mention this to their flock is beyond me. Why can't they give their sermons and state that the family is a man and a woman, marriage is between a man and a woman, children do better with a mother and a father. Stand up and be counted against contraceptives and abortion. It is pathetic that the north east should be the most republican area of the country and yet it is not because of either the priests have no clue, are scared to get in trouble or the people are just dumb and ignorant. and why do the priests give service , not sure what it is called to the likes of the Kennedys etc, surely the Pope would send a fax or whatever to his priests telling them to spread the word of the faith

someone I forget who told me once that some of the religious are like religious socialists.
Think it’s a good phrase myself.
I’ve met many people who say they are religious and yet think that they can help everyone by giving them things like money.
time for conservatives and the right to stop trying to appease the liberals and the left thinking the left will like them.
I remember someone on here was in the san freako homo area singing where they get assaulted. They had threats , were hit, had hot coffee thrown at them and had stuff stolen.
The officer asked them if they wanted to press charges, the answer was no I forgive them.;
Why not have pressed charges , now they the homo’s will do it again while laughing at these people singing.

agreed.
The homo’s and the left went after the scouts, now it is the military by wanting to have openly homo folk in and they are coming after the church, infiltrating it.
They even have their own homo liberal church though the name eludes me.
How can they teach God and then connect that to their liberal and homo views?

It’s especially dangerous for “Christian” leaders to compromise the faith. They risk losing their souls, and risk the loss of souls who learn by their bad example. We have to pray for them.
This so sad.

I agree with you that with many Catholics there is a huge disconnect between religion and the rest of life, including politics. They simply do not know what the Church teaches, and that religion is a way of life. IMO, many Catholic democrats do not understand that theirs is no longer the party of JFK. With some, it seems that being Catholic is inseparable from being Democrat.
I'm saying this as a Catholic.

I’m all for social justice, but not attempted through socialism. Some religious people wrongly try to achieve worthy goals through socialism, but the ends do not justify the means.
I agree that you can’t reason with these people.
