First Family Discusses Move Back to Texas (video interview at link)
KBTX - TV ^ | 1/15/2009 | Julie Hays

President Bush's term in office is now numbered in days.

As we saw for ourselves during his visit to Texas A&M last month, the President appears to be much more relaxed and reflective as his time winds down.

Julie Hays from our sister station KWTX News 10 recently set down with the first couple to talk about their time spent in Central Texas during the White House years; days the President and Mrs. Bush recall fondly.

Julie You have a lot of foreign dignitaries that have visited the ranch. Anything unusual that comes to mind that happened during one of those visits?

Mrs. Bush We've had more than a dozen world leaders come visit us at the ranch and in fact, the ranch was a very popular place for people to come.

I remember when president Bush invited President Chung za Mehn from China to the United states and they did a press conference and President Chung za Minn said he'd been invited to the ranch, which actually George hadn't mentioned to me, but of course we were thrilled to have him there.

It was a very popular place for people to visit and we'll still have a lot of world leaders visit us there, a lot of the people we've made friends with over these past eight years who maybe are retiring or retiring shortly after we are and we'll stay friends with them.

Julie Tell us about your home in Dallas and why you chose it?

Mrs. Bush I found the perfect house for a couple of empty nesters and it's not as big as you saw reported in other newspapers, I think they have it confused with another house but, it'll be fun. We'll have ranch to go to on weekends, long weekends now that we're retired and we'll have the home in Dallas as we work on building at SMU the Bush Library.

Julie Did you ever consider making the ranch you permanent residence?

Mrs. Bush Well the ranch will be our permanent residence. It'll be considered our permanent residence, but we'll want a house in town so that we can work on the library and travel out of Dallas which will be easier to do.

Julie How much time will you be spending in Crawford in coming years?

President Bush I know for certain I'll be spending my first day after my presidency in Crawford - next Wednesday in Crawford. You know a fair amount of time. I anticipate spending a lot of time in Dallas close to the presidential center we're gonna build at SMU, but as much as I can. I mean I really enjoy it there and I have some great mountain biking trails and good fishing and got a lot of buddies that like to come down there.

Julie No consideration of ever selling it?

President Bush None. No

There is supposed to be another segment airing on this local TV station (KBTX) on tonight's news. I would imagine they'll post that on their website, as well...

41 lives in Houston near the Galleria area, but spends the summers in Maine. Houston in the summer is very hot and very humid which is why 41 goes to Maine.
