WASHINGTON - President George W. Bush says he will issue no more pardons or commutations before the transfer of power set for tomorrow.

This haggard young solider was ordered to shoot an unarmed Iraqi who's noisemaking activity and failure to cease such activity was about to alert the enemey to the location of our troops (he also allegedly planted a gun on the dead man and was convicted of planting evidence, I read this practice is not uncommon to avoid flack) He was scapegoated at the insistence of the Iraqi Government and the book was thrown at him.
We sold him out is what it looks like.
Baring a last-second change of heart Bush will not pardon him.
Let him go President Bush, do a little something to redeem yourself.
I had not seen this sad story before. He deserves a pardon, as do Agents Ramos and Compean.
Hey! Just saw in breaking news category that Ramos and Compean got their pardons! PRAISE THE LORD!!!
I neglected to mention in the tread title that it’s a (US Solider) perhaps you should add that if you would.
Not pardons, just comutation of sentences. Better than nothing though.
no, they did not get pardons.
Scratch that last post...their sentences were “commuted”. No Pardons. Better than staying in prison though.
Compean and Ramos got a commutation BUT it’s better than nothing. I feel sorry for our trooper but we can’t win them all..
True that it is better than when they were in prison, being targeted by criminals because they worked for “the man”.
I admit that I did have to click on this article to see what was special about a murderer in Idaho.
Last month the press was still pressing for a pardon for Edwin Edwards (D-LA).
We could have won a lot more if our President was a real conservative.
They got commuted sentences (reduced jail time), no pardons at all from this White House including Libby.
I guess that shows you the difference. Clinton and indeed Bush I pardoned a lot of people who didn't deserve it. Bush is being stingy with his pardons, which is good. The power should only be used for manifest injustices, not for political pandering or favors as has often been the case in the bast. Bush may have been a bit too stingy, but at least he wasn't like Clinton.
A shame about Scooter not getting one. I hope Russert roasts a while for the part he played.
"Please let my daddy come home."
He probably should have sent it to Laura.
Here are a couple of links Conservative: You really should read the Esquire story, the first link.
Thanks for the link.
He obviously doesn’t want to PO the Iraqi Government (they’re better than Saddam but worse than democrats) and that’s more important to him than justice or US serviceman’s life.
Good luck with Obama.
I fear he’d be as sympathetic as Sean Penn but you never know.
“He probably should have sent it to Laura. “
Indeed. She’s has liberal tendinces which leads me to believe he does listen to her.
