What Are the Media Celebrating?
Washington Post ^ | January 20, 2009 | Howard Kurtz

Filmmaker Ron Howard was chatting in Maureen Dowd's living room, saying he didn't mind spending hours in the cold for the inauguration and that even his conservative brother had come to admire Barack Obama.

Outside on the chilly Sunday night, Tom Hanks decided against venturing into the jam-packed row house, mock-announcing to a small crowd on the Georgetown street that the party was paralyzed: "No more hot dogs! The Chinese food never got here!"

The country's big-name anchors, actors, commentators, news executives, producers, editors and scribes have been celebrating the quadrennial event -- and themselves -- at one glitzy gathering after another in the run-up to today's inauguration.

"It's turning into the royal wedding, isn't it?" asks Tina Brown, who threw a brunch Sunday at the Council on Foreign Relations with MSNBC's Joe Scarborough.

Every inauguration is a major media moment, with nonstop television coverage, newspapers churning out special editions and correspondents parachuting in from around the globe. But it is hard to envision this level of intensity if John McCain were taking the oath of office. All the hoopla has left the impression that many in journalism are thrilled by Obama's swearing-in.

Ron Howard might not mind spend hours in the cold for the inauguration, but what will he think when he is spending hours in the cold in his own house because NObama is bent on bankrupting the coal industry and also not letting any kind of new power sources be built.
America has been left with no choice about buying very expensive TV sets with the DTV change, and we are being pushed to buy electric cars which go 50 miles before needing an 8 hour re-charge. Where is all that electric power going to come from?? How much family travel by car will occur when a family in Idaho who want to go to Disneyland for a vacation realizes hos many re-chargings their cute little Easter egg will require, and how many days it will take to travel 1600 miles or so one way?????OOOOOP!!! There goes the travel/tourism industry—OOOOOPS!!! What will be nest???

The state of California- where Ron Howard lives gets over 80% of their electricity from other states sources. When those states realize they need the electricity themselves, California is going to be in the dark, and the brown-outs of Davis’ days in office are going to seem trivial.

You should have seen the looks they gave me...I love those looks!

LOL! Yeh, sometimes it's too easy. A certain librul acquaintance asked me how I felt about the whole thing with a stupid smirk on his face and I replied as seriously as I could manage, "You didn't really vote for a guy based on the color of his skin, did you? How racist is that?" Conversation sort of died out at that point, because he knew if he denied it I'd be asking why he did vote for Bambi and the best reason he could muster is that he's "not Bush." Hell, Charles Manson is "not Bush." In fact, Chuckie has more executive experience than Bambi now that I think about it.
