BY WILLIAM BRANIGIN
Barack Obama took the oath of office today as the 44th president of the United States and pledged to "begin again the work of remaking America."
Addressing a huge throng estimated at more than 2 million people on the capital's Mall and millions of others watching on television, Obama recognized the multiple crises now afflicting the nation at a time of war abroad and economic turmoil at home. But he sought to rally Americans to a "new era of responsibility" and the promise of a brighter future.
He cited a profound "sapping of confidence across our land -- a nagging fear that America's decline is inevitable, and that the next generation must lower its sights." The challenges are real, serious and many, and "they will not be met easily or in a short span of time," he said.
"But know this, America -- they will be met. On this day, we gather because we have chosen hope over fear, unity of purpose over conflict and discord. On this day, we come to proclaim an end to the petty grievances and false promises, the recriminations and worn out dogmas, that for far too long have strangled our politics."
Obama continued: "Starting today, we must pick ourselves up, dust ourselves off, and begin again the work of remaking America."

That is my hope. But I won’t hold my breath. I do see a small possibility of just that now that he is not in campaign mode.
Botched oath of office- spit it out Barry!!
Yes, they are, but the principle is the same. Medical records are for security purposes. Clinton set the standard (low) and that’s the point.
No need to be so huffy about it.
Half black, and that half isn’t even American.
Wish I could be jubilant that we had Walter Williams giving his speech.
As much as I would love to agree with you, after reviewing a video clip of the oath I have to be honest and admit that it appears that Justice Roberts reversed several of the words, which confused Obama, then repeated them in the correct order, after which Obama somewhat recovered. I was momentarily very entertained, as were the rest of us, by Obama's screw-up, but in the end I have to admit what appears to be the truth. Remember, that's part of what makes us different from the DU crowd.
Not to mention, largely unemployed, uneducated, and lacking any real wisdom. This is the type of voters/supporters an egomaniac like Obama needs.
...apparently we have a new oath of office, faithfully.
Excellent, thanks! Here’s another source!

Technically, he’s not black, he’s mulatto...half Negro (and not descended from slaves) and half Caucasian. And raised by white women. We still don’t have our first black president. Just sayin’.
That issue is even more of a dead horse now than it was before.
Can you re-do the IDIOCY (1 of my favorite Despair posters, BTW) with a shot of the Mall crowd with Obama on the margin for his speech? You know, sort of like the Hitler photo on this thread.
I didn’t communicate clearly. That ditty was in the benediction not in the poem.
Obama’s fault.
I thought so too.
Pity it's just words.
Best wishes President Obama.
I guess someone has to say that.
“I was very impressed at the fact that Rick Warrens prayer ended with the Lords Prayer.”
And three people clapped for Warren and about the same for the Lord when he was done.
That was pathetic.
“No need to be so huffy about it.”
Huffy? You think our rule of law is not something to get “huffy” about? What are you, a Brit??
They were. Go watch a film of a rally in mid 30's Germany. With the sound off...
No need to be so huffy about comparing health records to birth certificates, all of which are supposed to be required.
