The Great Debate Over the Bush Legacy
Pajamas Media ^ | January 20 | Ron Radosh

Posted on 01/20/2009 5:20:41 PM PST by AJKauf

That some liberal sources of opinion have, in the very last days of the Bush Administration, tried to make a more balanced assessment is cause for hope. As a historian, I believe that any final judgment about the Bush years must be put off for at least a minimum of ten years, when we can see how things work out in the future, and more records of the administration are made available. Indeed, it is foolish for historians to echo commentators who make firm statements about how history has proved Bush to be evil incarnate. Similarly, I think it foolish for conservative historians to issue contrary assessments. Let history have its say, when time passes and the passions of the moment subside....

Probably, but one thing is certain -- many of those who voted for Obama will be missing GWB before long.

He started as a social conservative and ended up a conservative socialist.

With all due respect to the author (who is taking a balanced / cautious approach)
Nancy Belagosie and the retards that support her opinion, seem to still want blood from the previous admin.
How many times has America been attacked scine 9/11?
How many times has an attack been thwarted scince 9/11?

And here I am, defending Pres Bush against folk that have BDS, It’s gonna end up a bad comedy, it’s kinda funny, but you end up crying just the same. I fear what the incomming admin will do.

The most significant info we need is what congress coerced out of him for their support of the war.

He has kept us safe. No one can reconcile his twisted border views but they haven’t hit us again in 7+ years.

Two great Supreme Court Justices...really important...even though Harriet Miers was a joke to begin with...I could never figure that one out.

Kept us safe from attack again...war on terrorism was great...

My misgiving with him was his Utopian belief it is America's role to spread Democracy around the world.

Twenty years from now if the Arabs in the Middle East are driving Hondas and, hopefully Ford, and eating burgers and fries and watching television instead of trying to blow us up, his presidency will be deemed a great success, imho.

Big time failure is his largest increase in Government Spending since LBJ. Deficits and debt as far as the eye can see. A big time flop who really was a socialist in the end and maybe the beginning of the end for the conservative cause of small and limited government.

Only history will tell...

I will say that he wrecked conservatism in our country for the forseeable future.

He certainly did! I would also say that he didn't betray his principles since he never had any. He had disconnected and unintegrated beliefs and prejudices, some good (tax cuts), many bad (prescription drug entitlement, more fed control of education). What a mess of a politician.
