Boy Scouts in Dundee will be able to pledge allegiance to Allah and drop the traditional oath to God and Queen, says the Scout Association in Scotland.
The Association has given its backing to starting Dundees 45th troop which will specifically target Muslim boys.
In the oath Muslim recruits will be able to replace the name God with Allah, the Most Beneficent and the Most Merciful, and pledge to honour the country in which I am now living instead of the Queen.
The Scout Association is already open to all faiths and Muslim boys are currently part of existing troops, but according to the Association they are aware of some who might be opposed to the traditional pledge.
A spokesman for the Scout Association Drummond Cox claims the change represents a tweak rather than a major change.
He said: The Scouts may have been a Christian organisation originally but we have long been non-denominational and inclusive.
This new troop will in no way be exclusionary and non-Muslim

can’t wait for the bombmaking badge, the 9-year old wife badge, the suicide bombing badge... the last badge you’ll ever get.
Will they pledge allegiance to Charlie Manson as well some day?
Look up the definition of the word ‘capitulation’ in the dictionary. I think this turn of events aptly describes it.
Up here in Canada, the Religion in Life badge comes in Unitarian, Buddhist, Hindu, Sikh, Bahai, Christian, Jewish, Muslim, Jain or Zoroastrain.
Sounds like they don't know much about allah Satan.
Assimilation of Muslims is a good thing. The more they feel a part of British/Western Culture instead of a caliphate at war with the rest of the world, the sooner a real peace is viable.
The sun has set on the British empire, and the crescent has risen.
England needs to get its act together quick and stop surrendering Western culture to 7th century invaders.
This isnt assimilation. They can use the word G-d and have it mean whatever they want it to mean to them. no one else is putting a name on it but them. They need to GTFOOH with their BS
For a more realistic perspective...
Not a good sign.
400 years ago anybody looking at most Christian societies could have said similar things as are now being said about Muslim societies.
Assimilation of the peaceful is not the same as appeasing the violent. The progress that has been made in Iraq is due in large part to Iraqis turning against al Quaeda and its compatriots.
Say agan? please
What exactly?
Lord Baden Powell is spinning in his grave..
The scouts will help the unmentionables develop LEADERSHIP skills.
That is even worse
As another poster cited, B-P probably would have had little problem with substituting “Allah” for “God”, but dropping the pledge to the Queen would have been anathema.
The highest award in the British Scouts is the Queens’ Award. I don’t know what it is in Scotland. If it is there, I wonder what they’ll do when these guys earn it?
If you take a look at world-wide membership numbers and what countries they are in, you’ll realize that there are probably as many or more Moslems in Scouting as there are of any other single religion.
The country that has the most members is Indonesia - 6 million. And according to the head of the Asia-Pacific Region of World Scouting (who said this in a speech I was present at in Narita, Japan) there are quite likely at least half again as many more that are participating as members but just aren’t on the membership roles due to administrative issues (it’s a Third World country made up of 1000+ islands - the mail doesn’t always get through). Even just adding in the ones that are documented, toss in the Middle East (excluding Israel) and figure that almost all of them are Moslem and you start to see some interesting numbers.
In a number of Asian countries Scouting is part of the school system.
This man ought to learn something about Scouting before he presumes to speak for it. That was never true.
