I do some public speaking and think it’s also harder when someone close to you is in the audience. When it’s acquaintences, it makes it easier to look at someone you know, but if it’s someone close, I think a little more about every word I say.
Just saw the replay—Biden didn’t know why they were doing the oath again and Obama “reminded” him that it was for the Senior Staff (or something like that) and Biden said, “My memory isn’t as good as it used to be” or something equally awkward that could come back to haunt him.
IMHO this is a huge blow-up over something minor! I mean, it would be different if the misstatement was “I swear to boil little bunnies in the WH kitchen and run over little old ladies with their walkers if they’re in the crosswalk . . . “ I’m sure both Obama and Roberts are embarassed over the whole thing. Sheesh. Not like there’s a war going on or financial crisis to cover or anything “important” like that . . .
But then again he is supposedly going to sign/repeal abortion laws having to do with partial birth abortion and parental notification laws . . . THAT’S news, IMHO!
Correcting my post - I think you’re right, the clip I saw was at swearing in of staff.
