Fox News ^ | 1/21/09 | Fox

Former French President Jacques Chirac was rushed to a hospital after being mauled by his pet dog who is being treated for depression, in a dramatic incident that rattled the ex-president's wife.

The couple's white Maltese poodle, called Sumo, has a history of frenzied fits and became increasingly prone to making "vicious, unprovoked attacks" despite receiving treatment with anti-depressants, Chirac's wife Bernadette said.

A French Poodle on meds...shows Chirac what she thinks of his leadership.

We should pay attention to these animals.
Remember Carter and the attack bunny?

LOL - a poodle that bit me would have more than depression to worry about.

Sheesh, you'd have thought Chirac would have had the decency to own a French Poodle, but a depressed Maltese Poodle. This is truly disturbing. I wonder if the poodle's on suicide watch?

This is an accidental lab experiment proving the point that anti-depressives can trigger violent behavior.

55. Serotonin, an important chemical produced in the brain, is a neurotransmitter considered essential for relaxation, concentration, sleep and calmness.  Its lack or suppression can lead to insomnia, severe mental disturbances and bizarre, even violent, behavior.  To make serotonin the body requires sufficient levels of magnesium, tryptophan and vitamin B-6, nutrients which many nutritionists say American diets are severely deficient in, but which medical doctors rarely run tests for -- even when they prescribe ritalin or other medications which depend on adequate serotonin levels (which is often!), and even when just taking supplements for those missing nutrients may be all that is needed.

56. There are about 20,000 deaths a year in the U.S. because of illegal drugs, and about 200,000 deaths, or ten times as many, because of prescription (legal) drugs, including the homicides and suicides from "serotonin re-uptake inhibiters" and other so-called anti-depressives.  As proof that SSRIs are COUNTER-productive: They're WELL known to worsen or even cause insomnia, NOT relieve it!

57. Most American medical doctors have taken no more than 5 hours of nutrition classes in medical school if any at all, yet they are subjected to dozens and dozens of presentations by pharmaceutical company representatives on patent medications every year.  So it should be no wonder why more and more people look elsewhere for advice on real nutrition.

The headline says "mauled" but he was treated and released. More likely than not the dog snapped at him and he just needed the wound cleaned and dressed or maybe a stitch or two. "Mauled" makes it sound like the dog ripped half his face off and ran off with his ear.

Yeah. “Maul” and “treated as outpatient” really shouldn’t go together.

First White House pooch Barney goes after media droids, now this. Is it some kind of global right-wing canine conspiracy? My own wonder-dog, Roswell the Atomic Poodle, isn’t talking but I suspect he might be one of the ringleaders.

That was no “french poodle” it was a Maltese! A true terrier! And an admirer of Napoleon Bonaparte!

I hope it receives clemency and asylum

Reading the headline, my first thought was, “Why would John Kerry bite the French President?”

Poodles are only ‘honorary’ dogs, they receive professional courtesies and consideration from cats the world over.

They’re really cats.

White, french, fluffy surrender-cats.
